In regards to pre-req's, should I take two Psychology classes in the summer?

Published

:redbeatheHere goes :)...I want to take 3 pre-req classes in the summer at a CC. I will be taking Intro. to Sociology, Intro. to Psychology and Psychology: Lifespan Development. :heartbeat Do you guys think it would be hard to take the two Psychology courses together? OR should I take one in the summer and the other in the Fall? Since I'm currently not working and focusing completely on school I'd like to fill up the semsters with classes I need to get my pre-req's finished. I'm also thinking about throwing in a Medical Terminology class...Is Medical Terminology fairly easy? Let me know what you all think! I appreciate all answers :) :redpinkhe

I think it'll be a breeze if you're focusing all your attention on school! :) I personally really like it when classes overlap, it feels like you're getting a really well-rounded education in that subject, when you can interconnect the two. Good luck!

Psychology classes aren't really that difficult, but they usually require a LOT of writing! If you're up for it and have absolutely nothing else going on this summer, I'd go for it. But if there's a chance you might even work part time, I'd only take 2 of those classes.

I would leave your books you buy still in the plastic until you know your required to read them and work questions, otherwise,, you may not need them if the class is a "notes class" where you just study powerpoint slides or notes the teacher gives you......

also, if you insist on taking three,,take one first semester summer,,take another second semester summer,, and thak a third that covers both first and second semester.....

If you are required to be a full time student in the fall,, you may want to save one of those easy classes to fill up your schedule.

I would take human growth first semester, med terms second semester summer,, and psy in the fall.

Get good grades, teachers and employers care more about your gpa than what you actually have an education in. If you dont have a 3.5 gpa, you probably won't be able to get into a healthcare program.

Study tip,,, read your notes onto a tape recorder and listen to them in your car on way to school or work... you can also just lay back and listen instead of read constantly.

The two psychs should be okayy, taken together.

There's some overlap of soc and the general psych. Not much, though. If you don't want to work too hard at Soc 101, there's the online one from Rio Salado / Maricopa. Costs about $625 for the class, I think, and $700 w/ the book if you buy it new. I have one that I'm going to list on eBay. Easy course, since the book is stripped-down & less reading. There are quizzes every chapter and just a little written assignment every three chapters or so. Material gets a little tougher toward the end. You have either a 12-wk or 8-wk option, too. Might be a way to also get that class crammed in.

Med terms, I've never taken. Might be better to save it for an "only" or for a standard length semester.

I dont think you can take any psychology course further than intro UNTIL you have the intro done...the intro course is usually a pre-req to any subsequent course in the same category or field. Furthermore, unless you have done a heavy load in summer semester before and know your limits, I would stick with just two....generally you have long classes every day and a lot of busy work. Its definitely do-able if you are even permitted to take those classes together, but be warned you are going to be SUPER busy that semester. Good luck though, I understand the want to hurry up and get going. :p

Medical Terminology isn't a requirement...I just thought it'd be great for me to take the class to get familiar with the lingo ;) But I don't think I'll be taking the class as it may be too much for me for Summer. Also, at the CC that I'm attending their is no requirement that Intro to Psych be taken first before any other Psych classes. So Lifespan development can be taken together or before, etc. Preferably, I'd like to take Intro to Soc, Intro to Psych and Lifespan all together if its doable, but I just don't want to make a bad choice especially if the classes are hard. However, if I was to only take one Psych class which one would you all do first? Lifespan seems to fill up quickly and is hard to get into at the CC that I attend...when Intro to Psych is pretty easy to get into. SoOo, Lifespan first or Intro to Psych first? :uhoh3:

Psych 101 is a pretty easy class so if you could fit in both over the summer -- I would do it. However, if you are finding that Lifespan is difficult to get into.. then take that first if you are only going to take one. It's funny how things are so different at various CC's -- at my CC, Lifespan is easy to find a seat, but psych 101 fills up VERY quick! :)

JMO on your whole situation here but -- as long as you have the time to focus strictly on school; I would go for it and take as many classes as you feel YOU can handle. Also, if med. terminology is not a prereq, I would not take it -- why pay for a class that you don't really need? Know what I mean? Good luck and let us know what you decide! :D

those are by far the easiest prereq courses. My caution to you is that since most summer quarters are shorter, that is a LOT of reading when the weather is nice . . .

I know is been many years since this post but how was taking both psych intro and life span together? If you did

I'm debating on taking both this fall ?
