The greatest male nurse I know, must be my brother in law.

He is a psych. nurse in the Netherlands and just got promoted to nursing supervisor/ director of the youth-addicts-centre in the Hague. (Addicts of all kinds, from alcohol, drugs and slotmachines)

He is the most thoughtful human being I know, and I'd like to say thank you to him for all he did and will be doing for these kids and their parents.

As for the others, great guys most of them, although I don't really like managers who prefer the male and promote them, just because of the fact the have XY.

Happens quite often here, unfortunately!

My male students are great, no difference between the girls and the boys.

Although one of them is having a fight at the moment, well actually he put in an official complaint, with the director of nursing, because he feels mobbed, because of his homosexuality.

(honestly I didn't even know about that until I read the letter he wrote. Couldn't care less what human being he prefers)

But ok, he is a nice guy and I really don't know what happened. hope everything turns out right.

Take care, Renee

You guys are the Greatest! Thank you for all the nice comments! I try to be a good team player but I have to admit, sometiimes I am a PIA... My female coworkers are the greatest though and so are all of you!

Our unit is almost half males, and I love most of them. Most of our guys are sweet, caring, and compassionate. They never complain, and are like brothers and sons to us. They bring a different perspective to the unit, and are a big help in many difficult patient situations. Not all male nurses are that good, though, just like not all female nurses are that good. One of our guys wants to be the hero all the time and is always in the middle of the situation if a patient crashes, even if it's not his patient. In the meantime, his incontinent patient may be lying in a wet bed. I've followed him many times to find the room a mess, or not restocked, mouth care not done, and baths not done. Another one of our other guys constantly whines and complains about how hard his assignment is, and how everyone is out to get him, and how unfair management is to him. He does provide good care to his patients, but whines and gossips like an old woman.

Don't get me wrong, I love most of our guys, and the ones on this board are the greatest. And the guys do have to put up with a lot of BS and prejudice from the first day of school till the end of their careers. But being a man does not make one a better nurse. Nursing comes from the heart and the soul, and has nothing to do with the presence of any particular appendage or lack therof.

This is a very baised opinion but...

Male doctors... think they are God....

Male nurses....help you - as a God would....

Female nurses rock....

Female doctors ARE God... but feel the furthest from it...

Just a really biased opinion based on my experiences

I like male nurses in general. I feel they appreciate female nurses a lot.

as i said in another thread the first nurse i ever worked with was male...he really cared for his pt's he would lend a hand anytime and was one of the most dedicated people i have ever met...(he stayed fifteen yrs in a job that was below his skills, and that was constantly harrassing him). His example was one of the reasons i decided to go into this feild. Most of the male staff i have worked with have been absolutely wonderful! They do seem to be more easygoing and not let things really get to them. And most dont seem interested in the little power plays alot of the females participate in. THX GUYS

Rusty, we love you whether you dance, sing, or just sit around burping and scratching yourself.

Hey Rusty! I think opinions would improve if you danced around the room!

Send some of your good mood to me... I need it!

BRAVO BRAVO!!! I am married to a male nurse (not sure why I needed to clarify that he is male?!) and also am his boss. i know what a great nurse he is and his sex has nothing to do with his abilities.
