In nursing uniform during a traffic copstop!

Published

Oh my! I am a new grad and I sooo love my job. Seriously! I have had some very difficult times in the past 4 months and even cried a few times but for the most part I am immensely grateful to be a nurse.

I am driving home this morning after a long 14 hour shift and get stopped by highway patrol for expired tabs. As I am stammering out my excuse and shuffling through some papers he says to me, "maam, that's ok, I believe you. Plus I don't give tickets to nurses". :redlight:

How sweet! After he let's me go, as I am driving away I thought to myself, shucks I should have told him "I don't give shots to cops". :yeah:

Hmmm... must be a kinship among guardians of society.

Well... we ARE pillars of society aren't we? :bowingpur :saint:

I am part serious here, and I do love being a nurse.:redbeathe Don't you all?

I'm kinda surprised that on a message board where most are CONSTANTLY preaching about how important it is to be honest at work, many of you accept that it's ok to be "let off" of a ticket(if it's justified) just because you are a nurse. Interesting. Anyway, I'm glad the OP did not get a ticket.

I have also been let off with a warning because I am a nurse.

I am often very frustrated with working conditions and how we are treated by employers, but I am still very proud and happy to be a nurse.

I got ticketed for a California roll-through one morning.

I'm just curious, does this work for guy nurses too? 'cause I'm graduating next month and that would be way cool.

I remember when my exwife was working in an ER and got let off by a cop who recognized her; she was going 45 in a 25, expired tabs, expired license too! And she was always a real stickeler for following rules too, I cant believe she let her license and tabs expire at the same time, and than got away with it!!

I dont think that will ever happen to me.

I hate to a booger, but how did he know you were a nurse just by your uniform? Not all people who work in a hosital who wear scrubs are nurses.

Most peopel just assume. CNAs... housekeepers... Resp Therapists... etc., all wear scrubs.

Of course, as a nurse, I usually always carry my stethoscope on my rear view mirror as well as a big tote bag that says "NURSES - there to care" on it very large.

LOL!!! I just came off of my fourth 14 hour day and was on my home to see my family. I got pulled over for not coming to a "complete" stop at a stop sign. I was in uniform with my name badge clearly in view. He even asked me where I work. He wrote the ticket and had me sign.....20 minutes later he showed up at my doorstep with ticket in hand because he forgot to hand it to me. As he walked away chuckling at himself I was thinking if he only knew half the crap I went through these last few days. To top it off....the ticket was 110.00. UGH!!!:banghead:

I'm a full time RN, and a part time LEO. I don't ticket nurses or other police officers.

Wat are your reasons?

Happened to me. Got pulled over, policeman gave the appearance of being quite a toughie. Asked for the usual; license, reg., ins. Handed him the license and as he ran it, I tore the car apart looking for the reg., ins. Could not find them anywhere. Starting thinking, "crap I'm really in trouble now." Picked up my cell to call work and tell them I'd be late (or in jail) when the policeman returned to the window. I explained to him that I couldn't find the reg. or the ins. information, and that I needed to call work to have my co-workers take over my patients. He smiled and said, "Oh, o.k., just have a nice day and get the information put in the car" and left.

Talk about blessed!

No.

I got backed up in traffic because of a fender bender. The deputy was taking his time and his car was blocking the way. I asked him if he could move it because I was going to be late for work, he said he didn't care. I shot back I knew he didn't care, THAT was the problem, and he threatened to arrest me if I jad said another word.

If he had been some cute guy I would have said something so he would have to give me a pat down, but this dude looked like an overgrown ten-year-old Baby Huey so I kept my mouth shut.

better knock on wood

Chuckle, just for the record, I paid my registration to my credit union who financed the car and they told me tabs would be in the mail shortly. Groan, still no tabs. I might not be so lucky next time.

I was wearing my ID badge with a bright blue "RN" on it.

Definately no entitlement. I was quite the opposite, embarrassed.

Funny responses. Thanks for the laughs peeps!

:saint: What's a tab? I thought it was a typo in the first post, but then you wrote it several more times.
