Hello everyone:
I am in need of some advice. I graduated from a BS in nursing. Unfortunately i haven't successfully passed the NCLEX yet. I'm starting to think that this may not be a career for me. As much as i enjoyed my brief experience in nursing. Im trying to figure out my next step. Having only a nursing degree without a license to practice, I'm not sure how to proceed? I'm guessing there isn't much you can do with just a nursing degree and no license...

I am still a student soon to start my last semester. I hope I will pass my boards the first time around, but I can't know that will happen. My plan is to look into part time CNA work, while I prep to take the boards. This is my plan anyway. The job market is bad for new grads in many places and working as a CNA will help show my skills to a potential employer and help pass the time if 1. I don't pass the first time, 2. I can't find RN employement right away. I have thought about working during this last semester, but have been cautioned by faculty because in my ADN program you are really just able to keep your head above water especially in your last semester. My GPA is still very important for future Master's entrance, and also in a competitive job market, it all helps.
I understand that you meant a little more with your post. Hang in there a while longer. There is so much negativity about nursing lately, it's hard to not be strongly influenced by it. I think it's extra tough not being able to make a smooth transition from school to hire. You almost need that, so that you don't let your mind screw around with your original goals!!! One more thing. I intend to approach my practice as an RN in a very entrepreneurial way. I've always been a leader, not a follower, and have no inclination to follow the pack. Choose your mentors wisely and limit your time with those who don't measure up to your standards or who cannot contribute to getting you where you need to go!!!

Is your failure (so far) to pass the NCLEX the only reason you're discouraged? Or do you have other reasons to turn away from nursing?

Well, one of my family member has a really great career with a pharmaceutical company with a Bachelor of Nursing degree. He is very professional and driven. He started as a rep. and has since moved up in the company. Their are other options! Many ppl with BN or BscN degrees also work for companies that make medical supplies as rep's.

Sorry you're having a tough time, I'd encourage you to re-take the NCLEX, and then see what options are open to you, what interest you. I'm sorry I don't have another answer for you.

I would definitely encourage you to study up, get a tutor and retake the NCLEX. I personally find the NCLEX to be a joke compared to bedside nursing, and more of an exercise in "can you take the test the way we want you to" situation.
Do NOT let failing the NCLEX be your marker on your career.

Best of luck!

Not everyone passes the NCLEX the first time. Don't be discouraged. Some of the ones that didn't pass the test the first time turned out to be great nurses. I even know someone who didn't pass till the third time and she's a great nurse too. Sometimes it's just nerves that keep you from passing.
Someone suggested you study. That's a good plan there are also courses that you can take that prepare you for the test. Look into that.
Good luck. We need you

I'm from Australia and not really sure about NCLEX, we just pass the university course, present our transcript to the board and that's enough to be registered.
Anyway my advice to you is to have a good long think about why you got into nursing, and what your interests are. You say that you enjoyed your experiences so why give up now?

you have come so far...DO NOT GIVE UP. you are not the first person to not pass. you should have received a letter it will give you a synopsis of you strong points and your weak areas... review your weak areas.
I re read your post... have you taken your NCLEX yet? if you haven't get signed up and then come up with a study plan... there are oodles of posts here that will give you good direction.
Thank you all for your comment and support. I think that not passing after taking it a few times has aided in my discouragement. Bc i have taken the review courses and have gone through a few review books as well. And spent countless hours studying. But you all bring up good points. And I will keep them in mind as i decide how to proceed while keeping my options open.
2ndwind: Good luck on your last semester...Some of my classmates had worked parttime as student nurses. And others were able to work after they graduated as they prepared for their exams. Most hospitals have transition programs, where you are able to work as new grads while you prepare for your exam. So i would look into whatever hospital or agency and see what works for you. Again good luck on you last semester and to your future career as a nurse.
