In-home NP Medicare Assessments

Specialties NP

I have seen several job postings for these type of positions. I am interested in the position because it sounds like there is a good amount of flexibility.

Does anyone have experience doing them? What exactly does the visit entail? Did you enjoy it? What did you think of the salary? Thanks!

@carachel2 -

They won't let me reply to PMs til I have 15 posts on All Nurses! UGHHHHH.

This is the bulk of my response:

Thank you so much for the reply...

I have been an NP with a private practice for 3 years and while I love the job, it's time for a change.

In general: Is there potential for full time with this kind of position // UHG? Do you normally work as a 1099 employee in these jobs?

I am a worker bee but I love flexibility- how many patients do you have to see minimum daily? Currently I am at 16 with consults counting as a double visit.

Thanks again so much for any help/responses!

What company did you work for?

I am new to this. Apologies if this is redundent. What company did you work for? Thanks.

Carachel2:

I am a recent NP grad myself.....am currently waiting to test and will most likely do so in late June or early July....wished that I could test a lot sooner but I have to have surgery and I desperately need the study time. Ok so anyhoo, I spoke with a recruiter a few weeks ago and lots of things have changed for the NP in this country. He informed me that there is a huge need and plenty of moulah to be made. I live in the Midwest so......many retired people live in this area. He said that as an NP, even grads, are needed and should apply, we don't need DEAs for this position because we are conducting physical assessments for insured medicare patients. He says that there is no salary cap. Additionally, I spoke with my instructor last semester who said that she was making a lucrative income doing this as well. The recruiter informed me that we are independant contractors and as such would have to file a 1099 form and take out all of our own taxes. He says with his company, NPs are making $137- 250,000 annually. Money is money and doors are finally opening up for the NP profession.....It's about daggone time !!!

1. I'm not familiar with the company you are talking about. The company I work with does not do independent contractors.

2. I would be leary of a company/recruiter promising you that much money OR at least be aware that the salaries quoted to you are *before* taxes.

I just stated above that we'd have to take out all of our own taxes......the recruiter was very upfront and I have also spoken with other NPs who enjoy the high pay....after all we have worked very hard and deserve it......

That's fine..I wasn't arguing. I was just letting you know that this is not the norm for the company I work for. It does seem like a lot to me, but I suppose if you are doing it full time + you can make that type of money. Make sure before you sign on the line that your company has a dedicated system to reduce your drive time i.e. you are not driving all over the county.

Well these people pay for drive time/mileage reimbursement. Also, the ACA with all of it's ups and downs have opened up the way for the NP to change the way healthcare services are delivered. Obviously many of us have fought long and hard for this day to arrive and hopefully, with God's guiding and powerful hand, we will realize autonomy here real soon. The country is finally taking notice of what we bring to the healing arena. Our care is of utmost quality and others are giving us the acknowledgement we've worked so hard for !!! Also, every company is different relative to NP assessments. Some do things this way and others that way.....I look forward to your reply.

You seem so excited...all I'll say to you is good luck!

I have an interview for an Home Assessment position for Medicaid patients. I want to get away from bedside but I am a little afraid of the job opportunity and growth with these type of positions. Al these comments have helped a lot. Thanks
