Can anyone tell me why it takes a hospital so long after interview to contact prospective employee? You'll hear from us in a few days. Its been 10 days now. I thought they needed help. I know they checked out my references, so whats the problem? Do they not realize the possibility that you might take a different position in the mean time, even though you prefer their facility? What gives? Is there really a nursing shortage?

The REAL truth to the matter is they no longer feel the need to be POLITE anymore by extending followups like they did back in the good ol' days of nursing. :rotfl:

Is there a nursing shortage? I do NOT believe there is! :nono:

Is there a shortage of takers because of $$$? You bet your sweet boots there is! Misleading the public into believing that the problem lies with nurses and a sudden disinterest in students pursuing nursing is sooooooo BLATANTLY WRONG! :( The REAL problem lies within each facilty, hospital, and health care system who are NOT looking out for the betterment of patients anymore, but instead are looking out for their own salaries, jobs, bennies, and if that means hiring LESS nurses, then so be it. Very stingy in my opinion. Only the rich and those with a dynamite health and medical package are gaining the attention of these THIEVES......of course.....this is in my most honerable professional take on this entire lie being presented to the public via the media, etc. :D

I too belive that the main SHORTAGE is a shortage of nurses who are willing to put up with all the political and administrative crapola which prevents them from delivering SAFE and TIMELY nursing care.

To answer the original question though, sometimes HR just screws up. The hospital I now work for lost my application once, and my resume not once, not twice, but 3 times!

I thought, gee, are they trying to tell me something? They were not, they were just disorganized and going through new staff training... I called and asked, otherwise, I would have probably been absent my first day of work (since they had no way to call me...):o

kayzee, good luck to you /c the job- take time & make sure you only pick the job YOU want! it's still our choice & they need us more than we need them. pick a great place to work! dharma

Cheerfuldoer, thanks for your post, but there was a part I did not fully understand. "only the rich and those with a dynamite health and medical package are gaining the attention of these thieves". Could you elaborate a little more on this? Thanks again.

i'd be happy to expound on that statement for you. "only the rich" refers to celebrities and people with extremely nice wages. they are the ones who have the best health care coverage......"dynamite health and medical package"...because they can afford not to be without the best coverage.

because of the wealthy population's financial status, hmo insurance companies and other cut-throat insurance plans -- whom i refer to as "the thieves".......take advantage of the opportunity to gain big bucks off of the rich, leaving the average to poor joe and jane helpless when it comes to a health crisis in their life, because they can't afford to pay the high prices thrown at them by the hospitals whom i also refer to as "the thieves" who aide and abet their co-conspirators.....the insurance companies. they stay in business by turning "john q public's" away.

did you see the movie "john q" with denzel washington in it? well....that movie very clearly relates what i am trying to mumble here. if you haven't seen it yet, rent it......excellent portrayal of what is really happening in the hospitals and why. sad...but true.

I know in Oklahoma we have to wait on an OK from the OSBI. Make sure we are'nt druggies/criminals etc. Possibility?

In So. Calif, there are hospitals that will hire you before you've even left the interview. Not so with the government. It can take us 3 months to get a nurse in hte jail who's qualified, experienced and ok to work. A lot of nurses think they's like a change, but after they apply and interview and test, etc then go on a tour, they see what it;s really like and run for the hills screaming. We used to tour first and give about a 2 hr orientation, but we stopped because we had too many lookie loos who just tied up the time of the nurcung staff by taling tours.

Cheerfuldoer, I couldn't agree with you more!! Very well said and so true!

The HR dept in my health system is notorious for losing applications. I agree that they aren't really trying. My hospital does next to no advertising for positions. I guess the arrogance level is high enough to think that people with licenses will come and knock on the hospitals door. Hasn't happened yet!

I have a friend who is an RN x 12 years and she is having a very hard time getting a staff nurse job. They don't want to pay her when they can get a new grad for 5 or 10 bucks less an hour. Experience means nothing I guess.

Good luck!!

screwed up is putting it mildly.

i cant say im a fan of dealing with HR. i like the staff, its just that its always chaos.
