Just wondering...
Do you use a filter needle to draw up Vitamin K from glass ampules and then change the needle before giving the medication IM to newborn babies?

WE use one of those "straw" filters, then reattach the needle. I used to BEG for a prefilled syringe. What company is it?
You have to filter anything that comes in a glass ampuole, in case any tiny glass fragments got into the drug.

I always use a filter needle for any med that comes in a glass ampule. :)
I have no idea Premenrs. They make our code drugs too. I'll have to look next time I work.

We don't have filter needles as far as I know. I haven't had to break an ampule in a while, though, so I'll have to go on a search for the filter needles.
IF we did have the filters available, I'd use them.

Any time I draw a med from an ampule...I ALWAYS use a filter needle!
I think Vit K is one of the few meds that still come in a glass ampoule. Probably time to change, but the drug companies have never asked for my advice!!

:chuckle What? Ask the nurse what is best? Now that makes way too much sense!

man, isn't that the truth :chuckle
Ours are in premixed syringes. And we don't draw up any meds now, only pharmacy. I hate amps...I have nicked my finger on my fair share!
Well, I have been proven wrong. We DO Have filter needles available. They're in the ONE place no one ever looks for them.....the MED room!! :rotfl: Seriously, our Pyxis is not in the med room, so why WOULD I look in there??
