I'm turning 25 soon and I want to be a RN, am I kidding myself? I only have a few general Ed courses taken and well I'm pretty much starting out from the bottom. I've taken breaks between schools and did not take it seriously from the beginning. I get discouraged because everyone tells me that the programs are wait listed and it takes like 4years to get 2 year degree. Anyone out there in my shoes?
I am 32 and I sometimes feel like i shouldve done this earlier. I know most people who start a new journey later in life have that negative "only a few good years left" mentality but you shouldnt. Youre never too old to try someone new. 25 is nothing. If anything I believe that is when you should enter college. Youre more mature and probably take your life and success a lot more seriously.
25 for nursing school is NOTHING!!! I'm just now getting used to the fact that me being 22 and starting NS is OKAY, but after being on this site for so long, it's hard to forget that you're not alone in whichever way you're feeling.
On a side note, my aunt started MEDICAL SCHOOL when she was 56, after working in a completely non-medical related field for 30 years. She graduated and is now a doctor :) So, whenever you feel like you can't do something, just think of that!
I am not in your shoes at the moment but I certainly was. Starting at the age of seventeen I started having medical problems and missed large chunks of schooling(which by the way was not nursing school, I majored in forensic psychology). It took me about four years just to get through community college due to my health problems. After many hospital stays and doctors visits I decided I wanted to work in the medical field and decided nursing was for me. The nurses were amazing to me during my hospital stay(s) and they were the real healers. So I decided to do just that..pursue a nursing career. I started when I was 22(which isn't really too old, but compared to the teen's in my classes I felt old)...and now I am a floor nurse on the neurology/neurosurgery unit(I work oncology sometimes too but mostly I work the former) at a HUGE teaching hospital in Manhattan. It was the best decision I have ever made. I realized I was still on the young side but there were students MUCH younger than myself starting out. Either way it's NEVER too late to pursue the career you're after. Actually a few months ago we had a new grad that was 37 years old...no judgment, we welcomed her with open arms.
This is very encouraging!! I am also almost 25, in and out of school for the past 7 years...everyone always asks me when I'm going to be done and I am ashamed to tell them that I haven't even truly gotten started (I won't even be applying til next year and who knows if I'll get in) and I won't be done until I'm 28-29. We are waiting to have kids until I am done which makes this whole "time" thing a whole lot harder...we have already been married almost four years and a family would be great!

Same Thing here !!!!! Im so ashamed to not be done by now but I need to just focus. Ive been with my boyfrend for seven years and I can't wait to get married and start a family but not until Ive taken care of my goals first :)
good luck to you !!!!! we can do this !!!!! :)
25 and turning 26 in August. I have a bachelors already. However, need to keep up with work and balance it out with school. Plan to finish my pre-reqs by Spring of 2015. Have maybe 10-15 nursing classes to take. If I do the ADN dissapointed won't be done till 30. 32 if I do the BSN program.
I came across this thread at the right time. I've been really discouraged about the amount of pre-reqs and how long its going to take with a full-time job. I have a Bachelor's, but still lacking classes. Right now I'm only able to take one class per semester. I'm 27, married with no kids. I had wanted to start a family by 30, but that will be on hold till I'm done with school. It just seems like I'm never going to be done with these pre-reqs :\

I am 37 and just graduated from a practical nurse program. In August I begin classes that are prerequisites to apply for the AAS program and after that I still have a boatload more prerequisite classes for the BSN program. But I'm going to stay the course and see it through because I'm determined. You're never too old or too challenged in your personal life and family dynamics to go to college if it's what you really want. There is ALWAYS a way.
