To whoever,
I'm an LPN graduate and just now i found out that i failed the exam here in nyc for the 3rd time.
I did pretty well on my course, its been a year but if i remember correctly i got an average of 90 for the year. I have read three review manuals of which one was an online course with the videos from their review. I have done many practice questions but now i'm just at the end of it all.
I have to face it i cannot pass this thing and i do not know what to do. I could take a live review course again, actually my course offered a review course but all the person did was go through the review book they sold and highlighted what she thought was important. Mind you that was with about 180 people from the two campuses at my course so it was hard to really ask her any questions. The LPN course was very difficult to get into and it was inexpensive compared to other lpn courses but I'm just at a blank now of how to get through this thing.
I have a chance at my current job to get a really good position instead of pursuing this impossible exam. That is, impossible for me anyway.
I'm sure tomorrow I'll feel better after a good nights sleep. If anyone has any advice of any kind feel free to let me in on it, otherwise good luck and have a good night.

Hey Now !!! I Took The Pn Course And Failed The Second Half Of Med Surg. It Was One Of The Last Classes Before Graduation.. I Needed A 78 % And Got A 77.5 % I Failed!!! I Had To Wait 1 Year Before I Could Take The Med Surg Course Again And Pay 3 Grand For It !!! I Went Back The Next Year And It Made Me A Better Nurse... Have You Ever Heard Of Ati Testing... Look It Up... We Had To Take It On The Computer And They Gave Us Books... Thoses Books Are Why I Past Nclex.. I Had Been Out Of The Program For A Year Before I Went Back, Sure I Studied But Geezzzzz... Those Books Helped Me Out More Than Words Can Say !!! Lpn Debbie
Here are several NCLEX help sites.
http://www.teachingsolutions.org/nclex.html $60
http://www.teachingsolutions.org/nclex.html $300??
http://www.atitesting.com/OnlineStore/default.aspx $40
Did you get a printout of your scores, to see where your weaknesses and strengths were? I dont know if they give that information, but I would try. I know someone who called the testing center's 800 number and the person she spoke with gave her some information about her test results.
If you want some help, I will help you. I know the biggest thing is tearing apart each question, throwing out the 2 obvious wrong answers, then disecting the last 2 answers. It is grueling. I know what your going thru.
PM me if you want me to help you.
Don't give up, i took the nclex and i have yet to know if i've passed. In the begining i told my dad if i fail this i don't know if i am caple of passing it, but after thinking back on that day i had A LOT of anxiety and i knew A LOT of those questions. So i am DETERMINED not to give up and to pass. There was a lot my school didn't teach us..A Lot... i did a 14 month vocational nurse program instead of waiting on the 2 year waiting list....but one thing my clinical instructors told me is go back to basic on this test sometimes you will realize it makes it a lil easier ^_^ Please don't give up, you won't just be giving up on you license but all the time, effort, and work you put in. YOU WILL GET!
please don't give up. you workrd very hard to get through school i know that it seems very dark and gloomy at this time. however you can do it you hAVE the knowledge you juat need to relax AND DEEP BREATHE ONCE you have restored your confindence you will be fine. i have read some post on here and one lady took her boards 4 times before she passed. i failed my boards the first time and oncemy mother found out she called me stupid and i recently took them again. these are the books that i found most helpful. the exam cram and kaplan 2008. both can be purchased at borders for under 50.00 and you may have to order them the cram is more like the boards and the kaplan teaches you how to answer the questions and you could do the practice questions for 79.00 dollars.i think you live in new york i am not sure. i took the excell nursing review it was 400.00 and i did learn how to elimate the wrong answers and pick the correct one. please check the website excellnursing review .com and see or read the kaplan book it really is simple and it teaches you how to answer the questions and how to eliminate the wrong answers. please don't give up and you rember that the boards don't make you a good nurse you make you a good nurse :balloons:

word to the wise and compassionate, DON't ever give up!!!! remember you already know the answers to the questions, don't second guess
that's a BIG no no. I'm took my test 4 times and well by God's grace i passed the 5th time. I too was gonna give up and go back to my other field, God knew the whole time what i was meant to do i just had to give up my own self knowledge and let HIM just remind me what was needed to pass. Don't let the bad guy get you down. Just look up and HE'LL do the rest.
Don't study too hard you'll over analyze then you tend to answer the wrong answer. I came to the conclusion that the ones that can pass are the ones that never took the course, why cuz the answers are common sense. The advantage we have by going to school is that we're suppsed to know, and yep we so do, don't through yourself off. The book i used the most was Saunders nclex review. Just take it again and again till you pass, were a special kind of people we take on responsiblity of someone elses life, some people can't handle their own. We don't give up till the job is done, by death of a patient or the smile they give as they leave our care, What called you to choose this field is the same thing testing you out. Just a non-compliant patient ha ha. Take it easy and laugh it off. Sure its alot of money don't i know, especially if you don't have it, it just appears when you want something bad enough. And this challenge is just the beginning to your non-compliant patients and the sincere smiles that keep us going. Good Luck, my prayers w/ you. Don't 4 get to look up, when the bad guy bring you down.
I'm so glad to hear that you have decided not to give up. You have come too far to stop short of getting that license. I do believe there are a couple of things you should focus on:
1. When you take the practice tests, concentrate on the right answers...that is, do not try to do the test first to see how many you get wrong. Just look up the right answers first, then study them.
2. Pay attention to the RATIONALE for each right answer. This is the key in all nursing exams.
3. If you still have access to any of your teachers ask them for help with the RATIONALE of test questions. You may know what action to take in a particular situation but test questions in nursing are often about the THEORY rather than the action reality. See if your teachers can help you with a few ideas.
I suspect you failed because you were missing the rationale in certain situations that was tested again and again...Good luck to you. I know you will make it.

I can understand how you feel. I graduated nursing school in 2004 and took the test a few months after and failed. I am just now trying to get into the habit of retaking it. Its hard but you have to want it. I know that I didnt go to school for all that time and spent all that money just to a medical asst, which is what i am at my current job. I'm retaking it so that my son can have better. I think you should too. Good Luck
