Hi,
Im sooooo scared about this test, I will take it next month and I feel like my whole life is this test, Ive been through two and a half books already. One minute I feel confident and the next I feel like Im going to fail and my life will be over. Im having serious anxiety issues because my whole career revolves around this test. Can some one please give me some encouragement and let me know how this test is. Is it really hard or easy or is it mostly priority, interventions or what, I don't know if it's fear of the "unknown" or what but please ease my mind. :uhoh21:
Thanks in advance
Shannon

go to mosby's site, pay for the online cat, and you'll have a very good idea how you'll do on the nclex. you can take it as many times as you like over 30 days. not bad for 40 bucks.
the stats show a pass rate of 83.8% for first time takes.

Hi there. My Opinion is take that 40 bucks and buy a Saunders Book, do Suzanne's plan and you will PASS your TEST with FLYING colors.............
I took it once before and made the mistake of doing SO MANY other things (Kaplan CD's, Question trainer, RN 3000, RN made incred easy, etc....)
Well I am trying it with a whole different approach. I will keep my fingers crossed for all of us taking the test.

A nurse told me to only take one review course that teaches strategies to taking the test. I am taking the Sylvia Rayfield review course, anyone heard of it? My work is paying us to attend. Although that's the only review course I'll use, I'm gonna answer as many practice questions as I can. I've heard the review courses focus more on how to answer the questions on NCLEX (tricky questions) than reviewing material we learned in nursing school.
Well Amy I did SO MANY of those different types of CD'S and nothing AT ALL even close was on the actual state boards.
I really went into the test not knowing what to expect (at all). I assumed that it would test common knowledge just in a tricky way. I brushed up on so many things only to be asked questions that nursing school didnt prepare you for. (meaning the style of question)
B/C remember in nursing school they would ask a question and you would get A) resp alk B) resp acid C) metab acid D) met alk.......well the boards dont ask that!! LOL They would ask you something like: here are your pt's labs, here are the options (now if you thought of what you would pick BEFORE looking at your choices then try to look for THAT answer of course it wont be there......so now you have to critically think)
I really wish I came on this message board right out of nursing school and started right away with Saunder's!!
When I came home from the boards I went straight to my Saunders book to the index. Everything that I remembered WAS IN THAT BOOK!!! Even something that was only mentioned in ONE line WAS THERE!!
So back to what you asked me Had I left the CD's in the other room and only used the book I think I would have been better off. Each CD had a "different style" and honestly I dont think they were close to "NCLEX style"
Sorry for the long reply =)-
oh no long is good. i am encouraged cause I have been on the boards probably since around last Fall. I am using Saunders so it is very encouraging! I started Saunders back in late March. So I am encouraged that Imight have a chance......LOL thanks for replying!

The most helpful book I have worked with so far was the Kaplan NCLEX-RN book, the one that teaches you all about the NCLEX and how to go about answering NCLEX questions. It is NOT a content review book - I'm sure there are plenty of those out there. But this one addresses the issue of learning how to interpret the NCLEX questions - how to think, how to eliminate, how to pick and choose between four answers that all look good - and what to do when you simply don't have a clue!!
After I'd learnt how to THINK regarding the NCLEX, I went on to content review, and after that, just started working through hundreds and hundreds of practice questions. 100 a day - keeps your mind working the right way.

You should have been around when state boards were 2-3 days of testing. bottom line is you either know it or you don't. Give yourself a spa day the day before and take it. Maybe you need the spa day now. You need to mellow out. A skill useful in dealing with the profession.
Well if the original poster is anything like me working and raising a family then a spa day is unlikely......
i agree you either know it or you dont however........honestly how much of the NCLEX is a mind game where its all in the test taking abilities and NOT necessarily ALL knowledge base.......
I sympathise totally with the "OP" when she said she was super nervous. (Doesn't necessarily mean she isn't going to make the best darn nurse ever)....right? If you aren't nervous I mean super nervous over the NCLEX IMO something isn't right.......HTH
