I'm taking Nclex pn exam on Dec 1st...I am so overwhelmed..please help!

Hello everyone! I am taking my nclex on Dec 1st and like I said, I am so overwhelmed :crying2:. I have Saunders the comprehensive review, and I'm not quite sure how to review from it, especially the pharmacology section. I did the assesment part and got the study plan for a month but the thing about me is I take a long time to study. I can't just read the book for me to remember things, I have to rewrite pretty much everything for me to remember it. As you can imagine, it takes me at least 4-6 hours to read a long chapter and I feel like I just dont have that much time to study.

I want to ask you guys for any advice. Also, a lot of nurses that I've talked to said that they had the same book and did not do the study plan and just did the questions on the CD. I tried doing that, but I feel like I'm going to miss a lot of things. Plus, the questions on the CD (pharmacology section) are mostly knowledge/comprehension level. I also have Mosby's CD but have not really study on that much. Please help me!:crying2::confused:

hello katrene.. i took the nclex-rn and passed the 1st time.. i'm not sure about how nclex-pn exam goes but as i read your post.. i decided to give some advice as i felt the same anxiety during my review..:)

you don't need to panic dear..:) just take your time each day.. anxiety will take you nowhere.. since your exam date is on dec. 1, i think time is sufficient for you to review.. study on the topics that you feel you don't know that well or you're not confident of.. love your weakness..:) also practice on answering questions everyday.. have a target number of items.. like 100 questions each day.. then increase in number of questions as the day goes by,.:) as they say,, practice makes perfect..:) answer like it is the actual.. remember also to read the rationales and understand them with your mind and heart. Lastly, don't forget to pray every night.. God is always there for us.. i know he'll guide you too..;) God bless.:)

Hello methylorange. I agree on what u said. keep on practicing.. but i am worried, i might using the least helpful reviewers for NCLEX-RN.. I have Saunders Q/A 4th edition, Saunders comprehensive CD and Nclex 3500. I am not sure if they are good sources. Can u give me some tips like what kind of reviewers you used, what topics i should focus.. Its kinda unfair for you but i envy you and i wish i cud pass nclex only once like you did. I'm almost prepared for my oncoming exam nxt month but Im not that confident and i worry a lot, sometimes i cant sleep very well.

I recently took the NCLEX-pn and I think studying test taking tips was more helpful. Then doing questions. I only had one dosage cal problem and medications that I had never seem before. The material on the exam was all foreign to me but I passed. There is no way to know whats on the exam. Know your basic stuff ( ABC, least invasive, The Nclex hospital is a perfect hospital, what can you do to help the patient, etc.). I'm.willing to help any way possible, feel free to inbox me anytime.

Hi katrene555,

In addition to studying your materials consistently, I recommend looking for "tricks" to weed out wrong answers. There will always be questions that ask you about diseases, meds or treatments you have never heard of. This is where critical thinking will save you. I really love Kaplan's Decision Tree. It is a flowchart that helps you kick out wrong answers. For example, if your patient is in a situation that sounds very serious and 3 out of 4 of the answers discuss psychosocial issues rather than physiological/safety needs, your best bet is to go with phys/safety. The Decision Tree really helped me and I passed my NCLEX-RN the first time around :) Good luck!

Thank you guys for all the advice. I really appreciate that, it made me feel better. :)

To Latrice...what book did you use to study?

I checked out Hurst Review for PN at the local library. I also checked out a book titled PN Master Plan for NCLEX. After reading, I did a lot of questions and while doing the questions I made sure I applied the test taking strategies.

Medication plus Side Affect equals something Bad

Procedure plus Complications equals something Bad

The questions may minimize a scenarion but it is still what can you do as a Nurse to help the patient....

Hi chuchumikmik.:)

sources that are useful for me would be Lacharity, Kaplan question trainer and Saunder's Comprehensive.

Saunder's is great for recall and review. It focuses on the important topics a nurse must need to know.

Kaplan question trainer helps you to use your critical thinking skills. It would teach you on how to attack questions and arrive at the correct answer.

Lacharity will train you on how to answer questions on prioritization and delegation which i think is important.

I hope this would be helpful for you.:) I know you and katrene would pass the exam. Just believe in what you are capable of doing and most of all believe that God is always there to support and help us. God bless.:)
