I'm Pissed... But Why..

Well The instructors of My class told Us today... That more than half of the Class is failing... And Some Are so far behind, that it's almost impossible to Catch Up...

Then They explained that, Nobody fails the last semester... So they Proceeded to Give us an INTENSE review for the Next test...

What pisses me off... Is I work my but off the First 2 test (which where worth 40 percent of our overall grade) and I received very good Grades...

For those people that didn't study as hard or if any.. Have an opportunity to catch up...

Nursing suppose to be challenging... Right?

Am I being selfish... or is it not fair?

But of the people failing are some really close friends... And I would hate for them to fail out... So I don't know...

What do you all think...

(I feel as thou... why do I even try...)

Nursing isn't about beating others, it's only about beating yourself.

Let me get this right. . .you are passing, but you are ticked off because the instructors are going to do everything they can to make sure that those who aren't passing are going to be able to pass. Wow. I wouldn't want people to know I felt that way. They might think there was something wrong with me and that deep down I really wanted the others to fail miserably as a punishment for not being able to do as well as me.

Step back and look at the Big Picture: School only prepares you to take NCLEX and start work as a nurse.

Studying prepares you to pass NCLEX and hopefully, become a better nurse because you have a broader knowledge base.

Keep your eye on the ball, which for you is passing NCLEX and becoming a nurse, no matter who scrapes by with a better school grade than they deserved.

Here's some advice my adviser gave her advisee group (and I do it anyway, because I just don't have time for this stuff):

Tend to your own knitting.

Advice from my mom:

Don't worry about what others are doing or what they're saying about you. If you're doing what you're supposed to do, you're giving them something to gripe about - and if their lives are so boring that they have to talk about you, well, then, that tells YOU all you need to know.

Advice from me:

If you let this worry you, you'll forget to do what you're supposed to be doing because you'll be so preoccupied with everyone else's problems. Why on earth would you want to do that?

And finally - does this affect your standing? Does it affect you directly? No one can make you feel bad or tick you off unless you let them. And you're going to waste valuable energy doing it that you could be using more constructively. Let it go. You have more important things to take care of.

Why beat yourself in the head with it? :selfbonk: :selfbonk:

I agree with all of you 100%. I have the same issues in my class and yes, it bothers me sometimes. However, my concern is with my progress and knowledge. I do try to help some of my classmates who are making an honest effort to understand the material. Eventually those individuals who are slackers will not have any handholding when taking the NCLEX. Good luck to you..

I studied very hard for my early basic exams, but still got lousy grades because it was so different from my prereq classes. A fellow student took me under her wing, I studied with her group and caught on to "nursing school speak" as it were.

Don't assume that not every one studied as hard as you did. If that many people are failing, it is more likely the system's fault than it is an individuals. I think it's great that your school is addressing the issue.

If more than 50% of the students miss a question on a quiz, my profs toss it as poorly designed (am currently in an MSN program).

As to why even try? because you need this stuff for you, to be the best nurse you can be, not just to pass exams. Nursing school isn't to teach you just enough to pass a test, it is so that you can become a nurse, so much more than a board score and a title! You'll make a good one because you did study that hard! Nursing school seems like forever, but your career is so much longer and fulfilling. This too shall pass. Just keep on doing the best you can for your own sake.

The way I see it is once you are in nursing school, the competition is over. I would do everything I could to help a fellow classmate understand the material so they could pass. They worked just as hard as I did to there....Over 800 people applied for 50 spots. I think it is great the teachers are helping them out, because my teacher just snaps back-read the book and the syllabus....She is not one bit of help.
