I'm a new grad nurse

And I can't help to notice how many here are saying that they are "hating their floors"

I love my unit. I didn't get into nursing for comfort, it is not an easy job. I got into it because I loved the profession itself, as well as I loved the steady middle class income.

Nothing is free. Bedside nursing is back breaking hard work, as we all came to realize. But every day it's a different challenge!! Even if you have the same patients! How can you not enjoy doing everything you can to stabilize them/achieve a good outcome?? When I go into work I think of the positive things I will be doing for my patients , not how it would affect me. I kind of "lose myself" into caring for them, literally, and if it wasn't for my preceptor to remind me that we need to take a lunch break, I wouldn't even go to the restroom most likely!

I just don't get it: what did the new GNs think nursing is like?? My school had us hands on, since day one. Toughen up and deal with it. It will get easier as we learn the skills and how to manage our time. But please stop saying that you "want to quit"! Really???

I'm glad you've found an idyllic nursing unit and environment in which to begin your career. Enjoy those rainbows and unicorns.

In the event that you're actually serious and not a troll - you're not actually qualified as a new grad to really know what is a dangerous, busy, or inappropriate environment. So there.

There's nothing unusual about what you're describing. It's called the "Honeymoon Phase". Enjoy it while you can. "Reality Shock" comes next.

Nursing is not a walk in the park. I was a PCT in nursing school, and I've never encountered in real life so many whining snowflakes as I have here.

Not all nurses handle the first year in the same way. Your PCT experience gave you insight into the reality of nursing.

Instead of patting yourself on the back, extend that hand to your fellow nurses that need it.

Get back to us in a year. After you have handled that patient load on your own for awhile.

You are not qualified to make those assumptions. I wouldn't even say something like that. People get into nursing for different reasons & there are also different reasons as to why someone may not like their floor/position/job. Not every place is as perfect as yours. But I have a hard time believing yours truly is that great.

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

Everyone has his/her own experiences. I am gratified to see yours are good. But please don't discount others' varying experiences. And remember, you are still on preceptorship. When that safety net is removed, your days may change and the stress may increase quite a bit---- and how you feel may be altered. Being on your own may become much more stressful. If not, and you still love it, I will be happy for you!
