So I found out yesterday at 5pm that my nursing license is due to expire today at midnight! I found out when my boss called to let me know that I may not be able to work the weekend as scheduled. I called the BON freaking out and they informed me that since today is a Fri, and it normally takes a business day to process, even if I drive down to the BON, my paperwork won't go through until Mon. Meaning I can't work the weekend. Gah, I know I should have known it was due to be renewed but it was my first time renewing in this state and all my other state licenses had the same date for everyone to renew...and apparently my new state is based on birth month which I didn't realize.:uhoh3:

I'm surprised you can't renew ur license online. We do all of ours like that now, then our work just checks online it's renewed - no problems now.

You need to set up a reminder system for urself maybe - flag it on your computer or ipad or phone a month ahead then u'll be prepared.

Spend some quality time with family & friends, though u might have to watch the pennies if you don't work the weekend: no mon = no fun.

Don't you guys get something from the state reminding you to renew...? Just wondering... :p NY state won't let us have a weekend off. :madface::madface:

He he... that's my state. And my guess is a weekend off is going to be better than a weekend of an unlicensed nurse working on the floor.

And yeah, I did get a reminder. My guess is it went in a pile with bills to be paid :uhoh3:

That change to your birth month could be pretty easy to overlook.

I am surprised your facility wasn't following up on it.... most start hounding you months before they're due.

Stop beating yourself up..... enjoy one of the few weekends we get off!:D

Yup...I should have been paying closer attention. I'm not sure what the rest of your post is about...I asked a simple question. What is the whole "Chill out! You are digging a hole. Only your facility cab answer if they will let you be a secretary....RELAX!!!!" about? Perhaps YOU should relax...and slow down and pay attention.

The cab was an auto-correct I didn't catch. :smackingf I really hate it sometimes :cool:. The chill out was not:nono: a dig. The chill out was......"Chillllll out man"....:hgu:and affectionately meant. I realize the overall tone can be snarky and harsh here and it was the reason I took a break from the site a couple of years ago. Only the facility can answer if they will let you work as a secretary. I have worked at facilities that won't even let you in the building as a part of their punitive policy to encourage nurses to get their licences in on time.

Relax was just meant as :hug:relax honey and take a deep breath. I truly thought you were in the same boat as the OP that they wouldn't let you work.....my bad.:o

I just got an e-mail from the BON because I checked that I have practiced under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol when I did my online renewal...LOL...have to snail mail them back to tell them I didn't.

I accidently checked a misdemeanor box on my initial application for licensure. :o

Got it all squared away in less than 24 hours, but, yes, I am a member of the airhead club too. :D

Our BON gets at least one renewal a day that has something like "I have worked under the influence of intoxicating substances" or "I have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony in the past two years."

The people that handle license renewal fully admit that the site is less than user friendly...just a little wiggle of the mouse can end up with a nurse posting a wrong answer. :smokin:

Thankfully, I sent my renewal in well in advance and have my current license copied and in my file at work...weeks before the due date. :)
