Im 17 years old and I was looking for a job but then somebody told me about becoming a LPN since I already want to be a nurse in the future...but I dont know much details about this and would It cost to take it? (obviously it will but any idea how much?) Also, Will I be accepted into the program if im 17 but im acctualy STILL in high school?

Thanks.

Enjoy your high school days while you can. After you finish high school you can start LPN classes. Most LPN programs are full-time and you will have to study constantly in order to pass your classes. Good luck. :)

I agree with Blackcat. If you are already 17 then you must not have much longer to go with highschool anyway! You can start classes once you finish highschool. Feel very lucky that you know what you want to do with your life already! There are a lot of us who did not figure it out until we were much older than 17!

I'm not sure what other areas have, but here we have Vocational Schools that are partnered with high schools. While completing High School during junior or senior year, students can also be going through the LPN program. Takes a lot of hard work and maturity, but I think it is a GREAT program.

I wouldn't reccomend trying an LPN program that is not part of a specific program for high schoolers, and I doubt they would accept someone who has not yet completed high school, anyway.

Check your local colleges to find out the tuition rates. Here, where I live our tuition for the LPN graduate is roughly $6,000.00

Ah, thanks for the advice. Yeah I figured out what I want to be long ago already and since then I do alot of research everyday, I learn new things everytime I visit this forum and when I read through some stories or when I read some tips that nurses give here. Im also going to Barnes and Noble today to buy a Nclex-RN book so I can read through it and see what im going to learn and what I have to prepare for. :D

Where I live you have to be at least 17 and a high school graduate or have a GED to get into LPN school.

Have you thought of working in a healthcare facility while finishing school? A lot of the teens at the school I work at get their feet in the doors of local hospitals and nursing homes and then when they graduate, they get tuition benefits. i know a few who worked as patient techs in high school and others who helped out in food service and stuff like that. Just part time until they graduated and could take advantage of tuition benefits. Plus that way you can talk to nurses and see what its like. Good luck and commendations to you for making plans for further education! :)

You could also look into becoming a CNA. I think some states will allow you to become certified before turning 18 or graduating from high school. Good luck!

Graduate early..

There are LPN programs at a high school about an hour away, it is elective credit hours and I am not sure if they are an LVN or and LPN but they are able to take the NCLEX, If I am thinking correctly they go through the program and finish about the same time they graduate from high school.

Do you want to be an LPN/LVN or RN?

Where do you want to end up working?

My advice would be to finish high school, and then become a CNA for the summer and get experience, and then start classes the following fall to be a LPN or RN. Good luck! :)
