Calling all Truman College Nursing Students

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hi,

Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.

1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?

2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?

3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.

*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them. :specs:

Thanks

We just got back the results from our first exam, and the class average was a C. I am shocked. It originally was 50 questions, but our instructor decided to drop one question (I'll find out why today in class).

Dropping the question bumped me up a grade *whew*, but I can't believe that half the class got D's or F's. I know my fellow students are not C,D, and F students, and I feel for them.

Hello kmuellfa,

What type of questions were on the exam? Can you remember a few? I want a glimpse into the future of what I'm getting myself into lol.

To Kmuellfa,

Who is your instructor?

I'm in Huda's MW evening class. The question she dropped had to do with an 80 yo woman who had surgery for bowel obstruction and what could a nurse expect. The question had to do with older adults and things about their physiology in general.

JessiBoopCNA, the only thing I can tell you is the tests are designed like the NCLEX, and it is a different style of test-taking. It's all about what you learn and using critical thinking to get the best answer.

Hi,

I think we are in the same class with Huda. I got like 83.6 % which is still a C, but I am so mad at myself because i corrected 3 answers from right to wrong, so insecure. Some questions were OK, but some were really tricky. I have been a straight A student so far but as long as I pass the class I will be fine as I have other things to think about (3 kids :)))))

Good like to everyone, it will be a long road.

Hello everyone,

i am trying to apply to Truman Nursing program next year. i have a question about Math requirement. Does it HAVE to be math 118/125 or can it be calculus and higher level math??

did anyone get into nursing program with other math req beside 118/125??

thanks

Hey all, I'm applying next year and like JessiBoopCNA, I'd also like to know what I'm getting myself into.

For those who have had their first exams already, in what way were the questions structured like the NCLEX? I've never taken any practice NCLEX exams before.. Were they open ended questions? Were they questions that were beyond the scope of the lectures you received and studied thus far? I've been keeping up with this thread while finishing up my last prereq for the program. I hope someone can answer my questions, thanks =)

Hi,

well, let me try to explain you about the questions. The questions are multiple choice, all of them. The thing is that it can happen that all answers are correct but you have to chose the most suitable one for the situation. The questions are case studies. I was secure for a lot of them but sometimes I was tricked and even though I eliminate 2 questions right away I get in trouble with other two. So, I changed the answers 3 times from right to wrong as I was not sure completely. However, if you study it should not be a problem in getting a good percentage. The border line for C is 78% and that is high percentage itself. For B is 85%, so even if you get a C it is pretty high percentage. I got 83.6 % and it is still a C. Good luck to you and go for it. I will just keep studying and hope for the best.

We just had Exam 2. What did you all think?

It can be higher than Math 118/125.

It can be higher than Math 118/125.

thanks for the reply

Hello,

I am applying to Truman and was wondering can you explain what is Block 1, Block 2, etc. of classes. Does this mean that all block 1 classes have to be taken together at the times listed?
