Hi,
Are there any nursing students from Truman on here? Past or present. I have some questions that I can't seem to find the answer to on their website.
1. Is the admission still "lottery system" based? How would that exactly work? I saw on their website that they award points on GPA (ex: "4 X 4 = 16 pts for an A in A&P"). If it's a lottery, how come they look at GPA?
2. What GPA did you have when you got in? Are you a current or past student?
3. If it's GPA based, I think I'll have more luck getting in like that than the lottery. One last thing I wanted to ask, would any of you Truman students, past or present, be willing to sell or let me borrow your notes from Truman's Nursing School? I know you might think I'm trying to find an easy way out or cheat or something. What I really want to do, since I have the summer off, is to study ahead. I have done this in the past with Anatomy and Physiology and it has helped me tons. That's just how I learn. When I have free time, I just like to look at things from a non rushed way. Once school starts, I'll have 17 credit hours of classes and plus work. I will also be studying ahead for Microbiology and A&P this summer so I can really have a lot of time to digest the material.
*Please if you know anyone that would let me use their notes, contact me and I'll work someting out with them.
Thanks
Hi guys,
One of the requirements for the Nursing Program is Documented Reading Score of 90 or above on COMPASS Placement Exam. Do you know if I have to take the test over at Truman? I took mine at Wright College and I was wondering if I would have to take the test again? Also since I took the test at Wright, does anyone know what kind of document I would have to provide Truman with? The office people at Wright gave me a pink sheet of a paper with my name on it, my SS# and my score but it does not include anyone's signature. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, hope to hear from you.....
both bundles are now available. Becks was very helpful over the phone. They even reserved the bundles for me, went over the list to make sure everything was there and let me pay over the phone. When I went to pick them up -- they were sooo heavy, literally 2 big boxes plus assorted loose materials -- one of the guys in the store offered to run them out to my car. I wouldn't have made it down the street myself.
Thanks for the heads up everyone who has noted the importance of making copies of all our immunization records. I was told by one of the assistants in the nursing dept office when I turned my folder in that they were going over them on the 9th, and that we will be contacted by phone or email (ccc) if we were missing something.
Anyone been contacted? Do they call or email?
(Just thinking about maybe taking a short trip out of town before school starts, to you know enjoy a little free time while I can -- but now I am worried I'll be notified I am missing something while I am MIA. That would be just my luck.)
thanks again for the help and info everyone.

Hey guys,
I graduated from the Truman Nursing Program in May and want to help you all out with questions.
I haven't read through the entire thread but I saw something about making copies of records. THIS IS A MUST. I cannot express enough have important this is. I think I submitted my HepB form like 4 times throughout the 2 years of school because it just happened to disappear from my medical file. Please make copies of all forms and documents to save yourself from having to stop by your doctor's office like I did multiple times.
Don't stress about the background check. I know students that submitted that as late as during the 2nd week of school. Don't procrastinate on it though, you'll just stress yourself out. (Plus the people in the nursing office may get annoyed with you.)
I do not like Beck's bookstore because they are overpriced. On the other hand, you really can't do anything about it because the nursing books are bundled for the first year. Honestly, there are a couple books in there that I never opened, but like I said, its a bundle. I recommend just getting the bundle or finding a recent grad to buy or borrow their books. I think the bundle was over 1000$. Second year you'll also be buying books for each rotation, just fyi.
Truman will never get rid of HESI. HESI is why Truman gets hundreds of thousands in government grants... because if you pass HESI, you'll most likely pass the NCLEX. This is why we have a 100% passing rate. In all honesty, that money has given us an awesome lab. My first year we had all this horrible old equipment that barely worked. Now the lab is totally remodeled with meti-mans which are amazing learning tools that breathe, have pulses, and can even go into cardiac arrest (I hear they cost like $200,000 a piece).
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. I was lucky enough to talk to a Truman grad before I started the program. I also spent a lot of time finding information about instructors and clinical sites, extra learning tools, and so on.
Congrats to everyone that got accepted
Enjoy the last few weeks of break before the semester starts. Really.
