If you went to WGU and then on to NP school, where?

Nursing Students Western Governors

I'm in the very early stages of researching BSN programs. I am planning on eventually moving on to an NP program. I understand the pass/fail 3.0 issue with , but I keep seeing posts saying people transferred successfully into NP programs despite this.

I am, however, having trouble ascertaining what NP programs specifically people got into. I've been looking for about an hour and haven't been able to pin down a specific NP program anyone from WGU had gotten into yet. I'm not married to any certain NP program at this time, so I'd like to hear what programs other people got into so I can research them.

WGU still looks appealing to me because I work FT, I'm no Spring chicken, and I am financially a bit strapped due to losing my home to a hurricane not too long ago, so I'm still rebuilding my life.

I'd really appreciate those who have graduated from WGU with a BSN and then successfully gotten into an NP program to share which programs are cool with the WGU grading system.

Thank you so much!

Interesting...I wonder if they were admitted. It seems like they were still in the process of applying based on the response. Accepting the credits and getting admitted are two different things. Still it is hopeful that UTA at least recognized the program. I'm still holding out for someone that is actually in a NP program post WGU...hopefully no more of the second hand info :) I'm personally putting all my effort into UTA's BSN program. It offers me the best flexibility, cost and completion time -- competitive but less so than WGU. And since I am looking at UTA's NP programs, having a BSN from them should help my odds of getting in for that. I also like that they allow you to take the prerequisites online through them in 5-8 week courses. Past this summer, community college classes won't work for me since they are semester long. I need to finish my prerequisites by January.

Thank you so much- was your MSN the leadership/management track?

I emailed University of Florida admissions, nursing admissions for MSN, and they said they would accept a BSN from Western Governors.

Exciting! I am in the process of applying to for the MSN-ed program. I, at this time have no post-graduate certificate plans for FNP, but it's reassuring to know that is an option if I decide so down the line. I am excited, but anxious to start!? Allnurses message boards definitely encouraged me to take the next step towards WGU MSN!

I graduated with my BSN from in May (RN to BSN track). I was accepted to the University of Memphis Family Nurse Practitioner program and am in my first term now. In fact, I was accepted before I even graduated from WGU. There was no issue with my GPA. I also applied to Maryville University's FNP program and was accepted, but was later told that there were limits placed on out-of-state students and was waitlisted. My degree/GPA was not a problem, though.

More VERY exciting news about a couple of our graduates. Two recent graduates from Indiana were both accepted into nurse practitioner programs! Congratulations to Virginia Steiner – IN006 graduate of Hancock cohort; accepted at South University in Adult Nurse Practitioner Program

AND

Micole Lewis – IN005 graduate of Eskenzi cohort, hired at NICU Eskenazi; accepted University of Indianapolis Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program

I have a question, or 2.....

I am a 20 plus year associate degreed RN, looking to finally start on obtaining my advanced degree.... BSN. I have pretty much decided will be a good fit for me. However, I am also weighing my options of skipping the BSN & getting a bachelors in IT. I think it would give me more options for the future and getting away from bedside nursing. Is there anyone with RN and degree in IT that has made that transition, and what opportunities did you find.... I hope this makes sense and someone can give me some advice/ opinions. Thanks
