If you are not a nurse, do NOT use the title, please

I'm starting a blanket thread, rather than doing individual posts like I have been the last few days, because this might get some people's attention better.

The word "Nurse" is a legally protected title in most states (as well as "LVN/LPN", and "RN"). The law was written to prevent people who are NOT nurses from using those titles.

Beyond that, if you are posting ON THIS WEBSITE, AllNurses.com has a clear Terms of Service posted that you agreed to when registering for a username. To put it simply, you may not use the word "Nurse" or "RN" or "LPN" unless you hold an active LICENSE for one of those titles.

Usernames such as Nurse2Be, or FutureRN, or HopeToBeLVN are obviously not in violation of the TOS, as it is clear that the member is not misrepresenting himself or herself as a current nurse.

If you are someone who has mistakenly registered an incorrect username, please take the time to CHANGE IT. There are many members here who will be angry with seeing your fraudulent use of the title; some will be nice about it and ask you politely to change it (as I am doing) and some will be far less pleasant....and both will be right.

CNAs, MAs, who are using the word Nurse in your name....please stop. Students, post-students who have yet to pass the NCLEX, please do not use a title you have not earned.

You wouldn't call yourself Doctor Sally (I don't think?) if you aren't a doctor. Please give Nurses the same consideration.

Thank you.

Yeah, he's laughing at this post. From a doctor's office. On a Sunday.

I have my doubts.

Oh, please, redhead. Some respect. They're saving lives here!

[/sarcasm]

Hey guys we are hiring BSN's. My doc is the medical director and conducting interviews. I chose to work this Sunday because a friend of mine is a patient here this weekend and instead of traveling back and forth to see here I decided to be here 8-12 hours instead. If you girls are in Atlanta then please apply because you seem to have lots of time on your hands and angry about something (maybe your current job, spouse, finances, etc) I don't know and don't really care. I only made a highlight on the janitor situation to prove that we could all be life savers no matter what our titles are. By no means do I walk around town screaming im a nurse or that my name is "NurseLadi" nor do I walk around screaming my Instagram name or twitter name because that's not who I am. If I wanted to persuade myself as a nurse on this website I could easily make up a bogus name (RN-MSN, Phd) ect. and carry on acting like someone im not. This is only a webpage! I can delete my info within seconds and so could you. Nothing is set in stone here. I don't sign my name "Nurseladi" nor is it on my paycheck or bills. And honestly its really not misleading if you ask me. Now if I put "NurseLadi-BSN-MSN-Phd" then we have a problem... lol

Have a Great Day ladies!! Sorry if I ruffled any feathers on the beautiful Sunday.. Enjoy your afternoon...

But don't you see the best part? She's identified the city she is in, her place of employment, and that she's at work right now. She states her job, and her school plans. And yet she somehow believes she is anonymous on this message board! :sarcastic:

Only thing she's missing is using her actual face as an avatar, LOL....something else I caution against :)

....Oh!! I thought it really was NeNe. The attitude matches.

ETA oops I'm not sure that's NeNe. Dang small avatars.

And its understood*

This is the type of protection that most states afford to the use of the title Nurse. This just happens to be the law in Georgia:

Chapter 26 of Title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to nurses, is amended (2011) in Code Section 43-26-6, relating to the use of certain titles by licensed registered nurses or advanced practice registered nurses, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:

"(d) No person shall use the title 'nurse' or any other title or abbreviation that would represent to the public that a person is authorized to practice nursing unless the person is licensed or otherwise authorized under this article or Article 2 of this chapter."

Said chapter is further amended in Code Section 43-26-33, relating to the use of certain titles by licensed practical nurses or applicants, by adding a new subsection to read as follows:

"© No person shall use the title 'nurse' or any other title or abbreviation that would represent to the public that a person is authorized to practice nursing unless the person is licensed or otherwise authorized under this article or Article 1 of this chapter."

Additionally, it is against the rules of this site to post under a username which indicates a title which you have not earned.

It is clear that some do not understand the blood, swear and tears that is required to earn the right to use the title "Nurse." I am a student nurse and have worked my tail off to get to this point. I would never dare to use the title of "Nurse" until I have earned the right (passing the NCLEX). For someone who doesn't even have the right to use the title SN after there name, I find their attitude quite juvenile. Hopefully, when they get a dose of reality, ie nursing school, that attitude will change.

If you girls are in Atlanta then please apply because you seem to have lots of time on your hands and angry about something (maybe your current job, spouse, finances, etc) I don't know and don't really care.

Discounting the men? That's in bad taste. You'll learn after a few years in the profession that it annoys the gents when you automatically associate "nurse" with "she".
