Should I be a nurse: I am going to scream!:banghead: How in the HE double hockey sticks are we supposed to know what is right for you?? I am sorry if I sound rude not my intent, but it just makes me wonder, do you have to have all your decisions made by another person if so you ARE going to have a hard time being a burse. I am a EMT and if I had to ask someone to do XYZ before I do what I know needs to be done, I would have a poor patient outcome. Sorry but this is getting old

Yep, but to appreciate their situation's not unique they'd need to understand that they're not as special as they think.

And I see there's a new thread asking about which areas of nursing have the least (and most) amount of maths. I can't read the thread, as I suspect doing so will lead me to taking my own life. After I've posted "This is not a good way to select a specialty. If you can't do calcs you should be an RN."

ETA: hmm. They need "advices."

..you got this wrong again....isn't it ADVISE????;););)

....oh, they're "special" all right!

I also could not bring myself to read the math post..but then again..we are nurses..what the heck do we need math for?????? I mean do we really need to calculate those doses of antibiotics for the pedi patients based on their weight (in kilos btw)...can't we just eyeball it?....or how about the doses of narcotics based on wt...or titrating drips..man..we really don't need math..it's a waste of time....:jester:

although, if I do read it, I don't think I will take my life..perhaps just pour bleach in my eyes.

While useful, the internet, tv and instant messaging has created a stunted generation. The teens and 20 somethings really don't know how to think or express themselves. This is glaringly evident from the posts on this site, filled with text speak, spelling, and grammatical errors. Very sad. I'm only 38, but I have noticed a huge difference.

Even more disturbing is the lack of humility. It's true that you don't know what you don't know. What are we going to do when all these baby boomers DO retire? Run!

:bowingpur:bow::bowingpur:bow:

How true.

And while the internet has a lot of positive aspects, it's also chewing up the economy for the brick and mortar businesses (anybody "still" remember "Borders" book stores?) whether chain, or "Mom & Pop"..... Sure, it's easier to click a few keys and have someone show up at the door with the stuff- but in the meantime, the business owners we used to buy from are extinct or dying, the postal service is fading (I live in a city of 150,000 people...and the infinite wisdom of the govt is planning to shut down the 'big' post office here... there will be pick-up stations; no services unless at a packaging store/FedEX/UPS), and all of that interaction with humans in between the computer click and grabbing the box from the front step is gone.

Once again, moderation gives way to gluttony by way of cyber-society. And too much of anything is lethal. jmho :)

:lol2::lol2: I must admit, in all my 31 years of being a nurse, I never gave a cowbell to a patient. What is this "cowbell"? Oh and CT Pixie, I too need those spoons when you're done:hhmth:

Since I'm not an SNL fan, I am not completely sure; that said, I'm fairly confident that the pediatric applications would be limited :D

But would using Google do any good?

About most things I'd certainly recommend caution replying on Google, but in this case it was to find out what an acronym for an organisation was. I've tried Googling "AHPRA" several times, and the governement website's the fist hit every time. The question asked on the other thread was, in essence, 'what is ahpra? An agency or a hospital?'

I've come up with a new response for those "Should I be a nurse?" threads - yes, absolutely. And while you're making life-changing decisions based on the opinions of a group of strangers, you should also sign over your life savings to me.

I often wonder, if you can't make simple decisions for yourself, how on earth are you able to make life saving decisions for anyone else? Maybe not someone who should be a nurse.

And yet another thread about nurses eating their young has appeared. Apparently, some people just can't read or use the "search" function.

It's probably a unique situation. Don't be so judgmental (dripping sarcasm).:uhoh3:

You're right. I forgot that everyone is "special."
