Just wanted to offer a few words of encouragement to those who are struggling nursing students wondering if they will make it through.

I am 24, mother to a wonderful 8 year old daughter. I started LPN school in Sept. 2010 which was 3 months after I got divorced. I was severely depressed for a while, had to work four 12hr night shifts a week as a nurse tech in a hospital to be able to pay the bills, and went to LPN school M-F 8a-4pm. I had to stay up for 34-38 hrs at a time due to my work/school/mommy schedule. I got sick often due to the stress. One day I got to clinicals and just cried. I was so tired. I ended up taking a 3 month break, and I'm so glad I did. I came back to school with the class behind me, re-energized and re-focused.

My advice is if you have to work FT then ideally get a double weekend job but I didn't want to find a new job cuz I absolutely love my coworkers and coming from a nursing home with terrible coworkers, I didn't want to give that up. If you have to take a break and are able to do so, do it. There were times I just wanted to give up. If you feel that way, DON'T DO IT. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. I finally see that light, being 2 weeks away from my last day of school and having a position waiting on me on a med/surg floor at the hospital I've been working at for the last 2 years as a nurse tech with my wonderful coworkers to guide me into my first years as a nurse.

Yes, there are people who have it worse than me. There's always someone out there who has it better than you, and someone who has it worse than you. Either way, we can do this! Have faith in yourself, try not to stress, and just breathe. WE GOT THIS!!

awesome testimony..thank you!:thankya: your words encourage ME!!!! Congratulations to you. Happy for you.

That's awesome! Your story is very inspiring especially to other mothers.

It's always a major challenge trying to get through nursing school when you're a mom.

I'm 31, with four children, and sometimes wonder how in the heck I've managed to get A's and B's so far. I do pray a lot! Clinical is coming up next quarter and I know I'm going to make it through that just fine too. I think it just depends on how badly you want to be a nurse - how dedicated you are. If I can make it through nursing school, anyone can!

Sometimes I envy those younger nursing students who don't have any children. Oh my gosh! I would have so much time to study! :specs:

Congrats! anything is possible :)

Congratulations! :)

I think I was just at a point where I was sick to death of pre-req classes and just hoping it will all be over soon. I thought about going for my LPN, but the community college in my area had to shut down that program since we don't have enough teachers. So I'm just wading through these boring general ed classes for my BSN, just to keep my scholarship.

Thank you so much for sharing those words of encouragement. I really needed that; not gonna lose sight of my goal!

Thanks for the encouraging post! I have 2 kids and have to work full time, no matter what. School will always be a close second though. I want so badly to be a nurse, always have, and I know I will need to see posts like this along the way to keep me inspired and my eyes on the prize! Congrats!

That's awesome! I agree that even as a single parent, we are all capable! I have just finished my first year working as an LPN after going to school for a year with a 4 year old at home. I have zero support from her Dad so I had to make it on my own for the sake of my daughter. I refused to be a 40 year old mother working some retail job. I knew I could do so much more. Now I make good money and I only have to work part time. I am finishing up some upgrading so that I can go to University to get my BSN.

It's never too late to go back to school to get an education. Think of a student debt as an investment for your future!! Good luck to all.

I love stories like this..they warm my heart! One of my dearest friends from nursing school had a story similar to yours..and she made it through (with GREAT grades might I add!) too. Good luck to you & all those single moms out there! You all deserve a round of applause :) :) :)

Love it !!!!! Congrats !!!!

Hi everyone, first of all I am a foreign grad nurse from the Philippines. I took my nclex-RN (State of Hawaii) last february 18,2012, PASSED and received my registration form and the paper stating that i passed after 4 days of passing.

In the registration form,it is stated there that i need to pay 140$ for my registration etc. so i filled up my registration form with necessary information such as my SS number, name etc. enclosed with the mail that i'll be sending back is the 140$ check made payable to consumers affairs (this is hawaii licensing dept.)

I sent the registration form with the check of 140$ last February 27,2012.

As of now, March 6,2012, i checked my account in the bank but the 140 $ check is still not deducted to my account. I am wondering if I've done something wrong.

now my questions and worries are:

-Did i do something wrong about the registration process?

-Should i put the paper stating that i passed together with my registration form?? (but then again it is stated there in the registration form that i passed so it is understood right?)

-Can somebody share his/her experience regarding own registration here in hawaii like how long does it take etc etc

-When you received your finished registration, what are the content of the mail that the consumer and commerce had sent you? is there wall certificate? the license itself? etc? pls share it

Thank you in advance to all the people who will comment or share some experience on this... it will really help me to alleviate my anxiety..

Godbless to all of you my co-nurses,,,
