IEN to apply for CRNE in toronto

Published

hello. good day!

i am a registered nurse here in the philippines.:nurse:

can you tell me about CRNE in Toronto, Ontario?

what are the specific requirements and what should i do to apply?

i visited the site given in the other posts/threads but all i can see are the dates, fees, etc..

what are the requirements and what should i do first? how long is the processing time?

im so sorry, im doing this on my own and i dont know how.:crying2:

When you were looking at the CNO website did you see the link to The Registration Guide for Internationally Educated Nurses http://www.cno.org/international_en/index.html? I found it in under a minute. It's very comprehensive and includes some self-assessment tools that help move you through the site. And it contains ALL the information or contact information for people who have accurate and up-to-date information right there on the site.

yes yes... i did.. i did...

thank you so much..:)

but the ielts?

i took the ielts already with an average of 7 and lowest score i have is 6.5 for speaking and writing...

Although I can't see any figures on the website looking at other provinces they seem to be looking at Overall band score no lower than 6.5 with a speaking band score of

7.0 on the academic test and you need to do academic. If in doubt I would suggest you contact CNO and ask them what they are looking for in English exam

ok. thank you so much..:)

i did academic ielts exam already.. thank you so much..:)

what does

type of education document received (i.e., degree or diploma)

mean?

i graduated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (4 years).....

and i also received a diploma.

so which is which? diploma or degree?

thanks everyone..:)

thank you so much allnurses.com...:)

Your BScN is a degree. That's the highest level of education you have so that's what you put down.

You can't put down a course you haven't completed even if you have less than 12 months left on the course

Question: I have a BSN degree from the Philippines and I am working right now as an ICU nurse in Texas for almost 2 years. Will Ontario nursing credit my working hours here in Texas or will I have to study again for 6 months (bridging program) and so on like other international nurses? Can I take the CRNE first before the bridging program or I have to take the program to be legible to write the CRNE? Do you know anyone who has the same case?

I have the packet already to apply, I just hope they let me take the exam. I know it will take months or even 1 to 2 years to be an RN in Canada because you have to get an employer and clinical practice in Canada before they let you become an RN. If I can become an RN in another Canadian province, can I just transfer to ONtario?

Thank you.

I am sure they will take your Texas work experience into account and you do generally have to declare it but the decision will be with the college. You will not be made eligible to sit CRNE until all requirements are met and if this is bridging or SEC then that will have to be completed first. Currently you have to still meet requirements even if you meet other province requirements so if looking at a short cut it will not work. Better and cheaper to apply to the province you want to work in

I guess I'd better finish this packet then. thank you.

wait... i thot one needs to pass the CRNE before one will be in RN in Ontario?

i dont get it.

whats this bridging program?

@ bonsai_25: There are no nursing jobs in Ontario these days. Their economy is in deep trouble and there are even layoffs happening. It's important to keep an eye on current events when you're planning something like a move to another country.

@ annjo: Bridging is a course offered through university or community college in most provinces that helps the IEN become knowledgeable and comfortable with current Canadian nursing practice. In these provinces it may or may not be required before writing the CRNE. Every nurse wanting to work in Canada has to pass the CRNE, or if they're planning to work in Quebec they have to pass the OIIQ registration exam. No shortcuts. No free passes. This has been explained on another thread.
