Dear Friends,
I recently took the IELTS GT exam and passed it. Im a nurse planning to work in the US. I passed my nclex too.
However, i am worried. Did i take the WRONG TYPE of test? I think im gonna die if i did

It is the academic IELTS that is required for US immigration.
Just check out the visa screen handbook and it explains it there

yes you made a mistake. you have taken the academic module instead of GT. the only way you can correct it is by taking the academic module which is for professional one like nurse.

i'm sorry to hear that.. on the other end, at least you already have an idea as to what or how the test is being conducted. if i'm not mistaken, the listening and the speaking part is just the same for the academic and general training exam.. are you planning to have an agency in applying for US? i know there are some agencies who reimburse the IELTS exam fee, or if not, they are the ones who shoulder the expenses. :)

I made the same mistake...
Anyway, is it possible if I will only retake the reading and writing parts if the listening and the speaking parts are just the same? thanks

Sorry, you would have to take the whole academic exam... IELTS is not offered in parts.... even those who have taken the academic test & failed in one or two categories have to take the whole exam again.

I remember when I filled up the IELTS registration form in IDP in Makati. There was a statement that all nurses should take the Academic type. Didn't you read it? It was clearly stated there even if you don't know what type of exam you'll be taking.
So make sure that next time it pays to ask and read. God bless...
