ideas to improve allnurses.com

Published

Im a student at Francis Marion University and I am writing a paper about a online community...

Being a pre-nursing student i was drawn to this website, but now, i have to focus on what i would want to change or fix about this page....

Is there anything that any of you would like to change to improve this community?

I love this site, but I would add an "ask the expert" section for us BSN (or any other) students. That way we could inquire about specialties, classes, the job market, etc. and know it was someone well-versed in that area answering us. I'm always second-guessing this as a career choice so late in life and would love feedback from others than got their degree in their 40s.

tryingpatsy, thanks for posting this thread :) I reworded your thread title so hopefully you will get more activity in your responses. Users feedback and responses will be helpful for us to make AN a better place for everyone as well. Good Luck with your paper. Let us know how you do on it :)

I would add more free pie.

:D

No but seriously, I find Allnurses.com to be one of the most well organized, appropriately moderated forums out there. I think maybe there are just a few too many separate forums, I just can't get to them all!

I would love to see a banner for the use of the search option. I think there is a massive amount of rehash threads (which happens everywhere, it's human nature) on the boards that could be avoided if people were a little more aware of the search. However you can lead a horse to water...

I would like to see old threads closed.

I find it frustrating to start reading a thread only to realize that it was started years ago.

I would like for the LPN thread to be for veteran LPNs. Lately some sights seem to be like a homework central. This was a awesome question though!!

More "group" or "friends" functions. Something that'd let you make your own little gang and have members join it.

:p My group would only allow access to Boston Redsox fans who root for the Denver Broncos on the side and enjoy old paper form Dungeons and Dragons.

:specs: Oh what a lonely group of one it would be.

I think an idea would be:

To add an option in your personal profile to hide other threads and post started by "insert your user name", so that nobody could link to them.

I have come across so many threads where I wanted to add my own ideas and experiences, but I don't because I want to remain anonymous on this site. This is such a huge community of people, yet the world has an uncanny way of being so small......

I would like to one day be able to join venting threads, or share an opposing view without the fear that someone could connect all the pieces back to me simply because something I posted resonated in a familiar tone and they came to visit my profile to check me out....

I think the nursing students should have a clinical section

I would like to see an entire 'Salaries' forum, rather than see a million salaries posts. . . like one for every state?

Also, on AN there used to be a little flying mailbox thingie that used to alert you to when you had a PM (haven't had one in a while. . . don't know if thats changed). . I would like to see that for if you have new posts to your subscriptions. Another thing AN used to do was allow you to change your background color. . . what happened?

Last but not least, I would like to see a 'First Day' forum for first days of school and work. I looked for that alot on here both when starting NS and later when starting my first job and never found very much. I think it would ease alot of peoples anxiety who are nervous about starting (anything) and want to know what to expect and also be a great venue for those whose first day it was to share or even vent.

Hi!

Great question.

I'd really like to see a forum for second degree, career-changer & returning (older) students going into nursing. I started a thread on this a while ago, and it went crazy! The whole process of returning to school and trying a whole new career gets really complicated later in life when juggling family, mortgages, old student debt, and work. It would be nice to have all that in one place.

Good luck on your paper!
