Ideas for Gift for nursing instructors??

just wondering if anybody had any "unique & creative" ideas about what our class can give our nursing instructors??

in the past, i know some of the classes gave a plaque with their names (students) or a picture of the class. i want to do something more creative, to express our appreciation as a whole. thanks for your input!!!:nurse::clown:

We usually all pitch in 10 dollars or so each, buy our clinical instructor a thank you card, and a mani/pedi at the salon. Then we also all pitch in 2 or 3 dollars each and buy the floor we have been "working" on doughnuts the last day of clinical.

years ago, i went to school to be a medical assistant...we got our instructor gifts as well. what we did was, we knew she must have or know someone who had breast cancer as she always wore printed scrubs w/the ribbons, or a pin. so we all chipped in and made a donation in her name to the susan g. komen foundation. they send you a certificate of your donation, we framed it with a matting and we all signed on the matting. she loved it!

Last year the nursing class organized a "Thank you dinner" to all the instructors/professors. They rented out a local Italian restaurant and invited each clinical instructor/professors as VIPs. The cost was like $40 for each student and a student guest was an extra $20.

At the end the nursing class realized that they made a profit of $500 from the dinner and offered this money as a scholarship from the graduating class

our class collected money and donated it to the nursing dept, so that our professors could buy a piece of equipment that was needed for the nursing lab. if i remember correctly, they purchased a heart and lung sounds simulator. they loved and appreciated the thought. i personally gave the instructors that i were special to me gift cards.

Each semester I gave my instructor a Satin Hands set from Mary Kay.

Wow, what great input. I don't think it's unacceptable to give gifts. My nursing instructors (7) were all fantastic and always willing ot help. I did do the donut thing at the end of our floor roations at the hospital. I also got thank you cards that our class signed and mailed to all the clinical sites we rotated through. Now I am precepting, and will definitely get my preceptor a gift.

How about this craziness??? My nursing class voted to wear TEAL scrubs without nursing hats at graduation (pinning)!!! SO MUCH FOR TRADITION! There are some members of my class who have decided not to participate in pinning just because it won't be traditional.

I found a nursing web site that had unique bags. Perfect for the instructors to carry their stuff in. It said, "What Happens at Clinicals, Stays at Clinicals"

The things that I cherish the most are the letters and cards from students --some from a year or two after graduation-- I expect my kids will find them in my effects after I'm dead. :). They last a lot longer than doughnuts and other goodies (well, except for that "A moment on the lips and a lifetime on the hips" thing). I have small works of art that are in little corners around my office, and once I got a great cactus -- they said I was prickly but I could go a long time without water :). Still have that damn plant, it absolutely will not die of neglect and abuse. Perfect for me.

I also have a small quilt that one of my clinical groups made, everyone did one square and someone put them all together. So thoughtful of them, I love it and use it. But the handwritten notes are the best by far.

Honestly we did that too in nursing school, gave the instructors gifts. I think it is completely inappropriate that they accept gifts if you ask me. And yes I have taught at the college levels. I have never ever seen another career track where poor students buy instructors a gift at the end of the semester. It is truely absurd but completely expected. Nursing needs to get into the 21st century. I am amazed that the universtiy continues to allow the instructors to take gifts.

This is exactly how I feel about it. Thank you for saying this. Instructors are paid well to do this job. Students are paying for the experience, and often cannot work so that they can devote time to their studies.

I think that if you had a really great instructor and you want to show your appreciation you should send a card, and a letter to her boss.

Instructor here. It is written right into our nursing student handbook that instructors may not accept any gifts of monetary value, which I agree with.

I do have some very lovely cards from past students displayed above my desk to remind me why I keep doing this.
