IART 117 Intro to the Arts

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since Simply Complicated suggested that there are at least 3 of us in this class for the summer session, I tought I'd start a thread about it.

Gripe number 1: I've only taken the nursing courses and so haven't had to use Blackboard until now. I'm not diggin' the system: Too many screens to navigate through, clunky interface, breadcrumbs either not enabled or nor working, mouse buttons not enabled. Very 1990's technology. End of gripe.

It was somewhat disheartening to learn that it takes about a week for the assignments to be graded. I'm not sure if others feel as I do but I don't care so much about getting the grade quickly as I do about getting feedback before the next set of assignments needs to be submitted. The grading rubrics provide some information but it's important to know what the instructors are looking for, so that you can adjust your submissions accordingly. Waiting a week for that feedback means that two weeks work of assignments will have been shoveled into a black box before you know if you're really on the right track.

Since I'm griping (again), I should also complain that Blackboard doesn't seem to allow you to see your previous week's DB posting. At least I couldn't find it. The other assignment is there, just the DB link seems to have disappeared.

I have had to deal with blackboard many times in the past. As far as viewing previous DBs, unfortunately it depends on the instructor. Some have taken them down as soon as that assignment was done and graded, others leave them all up.

I had that same though about the grades. It sucks not being able to assess your new assignment based on the grade and feedback from the previous week.

I really am not liking the fact that we have to be going to a play and museum and whatever else, i really dont have the time since i work full time and i am taking so many classes. I went to a play recently and apparently i cant use that.

Luckily for me, our art museum here has sculptures and stuff out front, so I can see one without actually entering the building, lol

And yet another gripe.

I just saw that my grade for the week 1 DB posting was 80% - by far the lowest I've ever gotten. Ever. In the history of me taking on-line courses. In a competely bullsh*t subject area to boot.

The poor grade is bad enough, but what makes it much worse is that there is no feedback from the TA. So how can you know what you did wrong? Someone beat me to it and posted about this very topic in the Q&A. The TA response? "We've never been able to figure out how provide grade feedback but just follow the rubric and you'll be OK."

I'm sorry, but I find that a less than satisfactory answer. This is shaping up to be far and away the worst course in the RN-BSN curriculum.

That is BS.. if you get marked down, what good is the rubric going to do you? I would email your TA and ask what specifically was wrong. I got 100% on all my first week assignments.

Although I posted a question in the Q&A on Sunday, and have yet to get a response. Between this class and Prof. F's Business Communication for the summer, on top of being 8 month pregnant, working part time, a 3 year old, and no AC right now I'm about to loose my damn mind. Both classes seem to be a pain in the orifice.

Still no grade for me.The lack of feedback is ridiculous.I don't think you guys understand how bad i want this summer session to be done. Please help:banghead:. I never thought i would say this, but the easiest class i am taking right now is my nursing course. How the hell can an art and English course be so annoying.

That kind of time lag on grading is really unacceptable.

With all of the mystery and lack of communication in this arts course, I feel the same way about it. Even the worst TA in the nursing classes provided some constructive criticism - and I never had to e-mail anyone to get it. I e-mailed the TA about my grade, not disputing it, just asking for feedback but 24 hours later, I'm still waiting for an answer. So I had to post for week 2 without the benefit of knowing why I did so poorly in week one. If I don't get an answer, I'm dropping this course. It is far and away the worst run class I've ever encountered and I've completed over 300 credits at a dozen different schools.

Chuckster just hang in there, i know how frustrating it is, because i am frustrated as heck:bluecry1:.Well it is Friday and i still don't have a grade. I mean no grade for absolutely nothing; their are only 11 students in my section then again my TA is a PHD candidate so i guess he is busy doing his own stuff. At this pace might as well wait until August 11th to grade.

Yeah, that is ridiculous. I never did get an answer on my Q&A post I made. I can't drop anything, because mine is all financial aid.. so I just have to ride it out.

Have oyu guys been able to upload picture to blog or paste since they say we are not suppose to attach.
