IART 117 Intro to the Arts

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since Simply Complicated suggested that there are at least 3 of us in this class for the summer session, I tought I'd start a thread about it.

Gripe number 1: I've only taken the nursing courses and so haven't had to use Blackboard until now. I'm not diggin' the system: Too many screens to navigate through, clunky interface, breadcrumbs either not enabled or nor working, mouse buttons not enabled. Very 1990's technology. End of gripe.

Not sure if you guys have recieved an email or not regarding the delay in grades and responding to questions. Apparently some of the instructors and TA's have been dealing with power outages and major storms, so they have not even been able to get online. So they are way behind in grading and all that. So with any luck that means things will improve a bit from here on out! I actually got an email from Prof. F regarding it, and from my TA in the arts class.

Have oyu guys been able to upload picture to blog or paste since they say we are not suppose to attach.
Whoa - I missed the part where it says we are not supposed to attach the file. I tried several ways to upload the picture but was not successful and finally just attached the file. I'm screwed if we're not supposed to attach.

It looks to me that the only way you can actually upload the picture is to do so via a hosting site, such as Photobucket or Snapfish. Of course, there is nothing in the directions from the instructor or TA about this.

Yea direction was terrible and pasting was even worst. It took me quite awhile, anyway i used the Ctlr+ C then Ctrl +V in the blog and that worked. Their is also a heading at he top of the blog entry to attach pic. my pic was soooo huge:uhoh3:. oh well i was not gonna try and make it small, since it took me so much time to finally get it done.

I can't even do a blog.. the blog option is not on my menu. I'm going to have to call IT I guess. I had emailed the TA about it, he asked if I was using the most up to date version of firefox. Which I was. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, the blog part was there. Then it dissapeared again. Tried again, and it didn't work.

It is not on the menu. First go to the module for that week. Then click on assignments. You will then see the blog and a link underneath that for submission. Hope this helps

Thank you! That is totally different than the video shows how to do a blog. I was trying to follow the video instructions.

Can anyone provide some help regarding this week's blog? From what I can gather, we are supposed to post something describing the painting we've chosen to study and something from the research on the same painting and artist. Further, we are supposed to concentrate on some historical aspect of the work.

Any help appreciated.

That is about all the info i have, so i will do about 300 words describing the artwork and the other 300 words about the artist and the kind of work, my painting has to do with a particular nation and its triumph to independence so i will focus on that. The artist is also local to my area so i don't think i will find information in that world book encyclopedia. However the painting had a full description and reasons why it was created so i will use that.

I know this class is divided into smaller groups with a TA assigned to each group. Just curious if your TA actually answers your Q&A board? Ours does not.. when I mean does not, I mean we have 10 new threads with questions, and he has answered one thread at the very beginning of the class. I finally emailed him directly with a question. I'm seriously debating on emailing our Professor, because it's ridiculous. We seem to be helping each other out more than anything.

That's not acceptable. Interface with the TA is essential in on-line courses and if there are hard deadlines - as there are in this course - a timely response is an absolute obligation on the TA's part. I would absolutely let the instructor know. I also think I'd e-mail the other class members whose questions went unanswered letting them know what I was doing and urging them to do the same. Hope things work out for you.

I posted a question about Blog 2 that asked for more detail about what the blog was supposed to contain. I basically said that the description of the assignment seems to indicate that we are required to post something describing the painting we've chosen to study and something from the research on the same painting and artist as well some further remarks on the historical context of the work.

The information that got back from the TA said that this was basically correct but that the descriptive part of the course is now complete and the focus for this assignment is on our research into the historical context of the image in the painting. Some description is acceptable but the majority of the blog is supposed to be on the research and historical element.

That's good information but my question is: Why isn't it in any of the instructions for the assignment? Perhaps it's buried in the on line narrative for the course. Still, important direction like this ought to be prominent and up front, not tucked away and obscured.
