I want a BSN but dont really know how to go about it. my main concern are the pre reqs.. will i have to start all over or can i simply dive into the upper division classes? i've been looking at the entry level programs which in the end award you a master's in nursing, but because i really have no on hands experience it seems that my chances are slim to none. so i'm left with the second bachelors option but i dont know how long it will take or if i need to do prereqs all over.. any advice would be helpful thanks!! :specs:

Why not look into an accelerated BSN? I'm sure they won't make you repeat the sciences, certainly, nor the lower level gen eds.

Only had to take a psych class and nutrition to go from my BS-Biology to nursing. I actually used those classes towards my Biology degree, so I could go right into the nursing classes. You will not have to take any of the science classes, unless you did not take micro. Only took 2 years additional schooling.

I have a BS in Biology and then went to nursing school. The accelerated BSN is the way to go, if you can find one in your area. I was only missing one pre-req and I took it at a community college prior to applying.

Find a school that has this type of program and check with their specific prerequisite classes to see if you covered them all (you probably won't need much with the Bio degree)

My program was only 16 months but I think they vary- heard of as short as one year up to about 2 for the accelerated programs.

Good luck with your persuit of nursing!

I agree that an accelerated 2nd degree BSN program is the way to go.

What area do you live in?

If it is still possible, DONT finish your BS right now. You won't be eligible for financial aid for another bachelors degree once you already have one. Take all but one class, then apply for the BSN. You can always finish the other degree later.

Specializes in ICU, PICC Nurse, Nursing Supervisor.

if she does not finish her degree then she cannot do a accelerated bsn. she will not be eligible for the pell grant if she finishes her degree. she still can use loans provided she has not exceeded the undergraduate limit. there are also scholarships available.

i am in the same boat will finish my bachelors in gov and soc in december and will move on to my bsn next year after i get my rn in the spring.
