I want to quit after one month....

Okay...here is the situation: I am a new grad who recently took at job 50 minutes away from home at a top notch hospital...they will pay for my con't ED 100%! I really love it there, but the drive is worse than I expected. I a week or so ago I rolled my car on the interstate. I ended up being okay...a minor concussion and bumps and bruises. Anyway, now I am terrifed to drive my extra long commute to work. There is a hospital that I could actually walk to from my house and they are finally hiring. I have already decided when winter comes I am going to try to find a new job closer to home. My question is... if I apply to the job by my house do I put that I am currently employed? Won't they think it is strange I am leaving after only one month? Or... should i just stick until winter. I can't move closer to the hospital... my husband and I just bought a new house.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better. That is a tough question. I would figure out the pros and cons of staying and going. The good thing is that the weather is about to break, so you don't have to worry too much about the snow and icy conditions right now, but if you don't apply to the hosp near you now...whose to say that by fall they will be hiring again. If you miss this window of oppurtuniy now do you really want to go through the stress of driving so far when winter comes again. Also if you do apply w/ the new hosp. be honest about why you are leaving so that they don't think that you are job hopping. I hope I could help. Good Luck!

What's the big deal? Apply for the job near to home and when you are on the interview, tell them truthfully,"I am looking for a job closer to home." They will respect that. They may even be impressed that you got a job at the fancy hospital an hour away. And a month's experience is a month's experience. Try to pack in all the free CEU's while you can. Having crashed my car on the way home from work one morning, I can sympathize with you. Now get cracking!

You can never go wrong in telling the truth.

By all means, just tell them.

" I live in town -we just bought a house here, I like my current job " in such in such city" but dont enjoy the hour long drive. ( anyone can relate with gas prices!!!) I have been wanting to work for your hospital but until now you were not hiring. I can start in 2 weeks. " Whoo hooo...:yeah:

Congrats...

I travel that far plus every day to get to work. After a few months of driving and nearly falling asleep, I went online and brought books on CD's. I love the drive now. Can't wait to get back on the road to listen to the books. Audiobooks have been a job saver for me.

NOthing wrong with admitting safety is your concern. Im sorry you had an accident but that job has already cost you more than you have made there. Between the cost of gasoline, your loss of transportation and increase in insurance its going to cost you, id run to the other hospital where you can be in your nice warm bed within minutes of getting off work. The risk of your or someone elses health isnt worth working that far away from home and trying to stay awake or fighting bad weather while driving home.

i could not have said it better myself.....

Thanks for your replys! This board is great. I have decided to apply to the hospital by my house and see what happens. If they don't offer me a job now, I can always try again later. The drive should improve since I have the spring/summer on my side...if it ever warms up again.

Until you can get that job, I second the books on tape. You can listen to something interesting, practice spanish, or make yourself a CD of your favorite songs to sing out loud. All of these things kept me awake when I had to commute.
