  1. thank you so much for your response and great info. i too wish someone could tell me yes or no. i don't want to pass up a good job because my worries are just worries. but, i also would never forgive myself if something happened to my child now or any child i have in the future. i will call my states head of nuclear medicine and see what they have to say and compare with the response you received. i have been hanging chemo for a few years now but not mixing it. two years ago i became pregnant and miscarried and now i have a healthy child. i wonder if there could be any correlation to working with chemo or just bad luck. good luck on your decision
  2. Hi all- I am currently looking for a new job and was offered one at a chemo suite. The problem is at this suite the nurses are required to mix their own chemo. I am currently an oncology nurse at a large teaching hospital. At my current place of employment we don't mix chemo and we also don't spike chemo bags, so this would be a huge change for me. The job sounds great other then this. I have a four month old baby at home and I am currently breastfeeding him and would like to continue. Based on the ONS statement there could be risk involved while breastfeeding and being involved in giving/preparing chemo. I also desire to have more children and fear that this job will put me at increased risk for having problems in the future. Has anyone breastfeed while mixing chemo? For those nurses that do mix chemo what safety measures should I look for at this job when it comes to mxing these drugs? I am considering not taking the job because I want to keep breastfeeding, but before I pass up this job I wanted to hear others experiences. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for your replys! This board is great. I have decided to apply to the hospital by my house and see what happens. If they don't offer me a job now, I can always try again later. The drive should improve since I have the spring/summer on my side...if it ever warms up again.
  4. Okay...here is the situation: I am a new grad who recently took at job 50 minutes away from home at a top notch hospital...they will pay for my con't ED 100%! I really love it there, but the drive is worse than I expected. I a week or so ago I rolled my car on the interstate. I ended up being okay...a minor concussion and bumps and bruises. Anyway, now I am terrifed to drive my extra long commute to work. There is a hospital that I could actually walk to from my house and they are finally hiring. I have already decided when winter comes I am going to try to find a new job closer to home. My question is... if I apply to the job by my house do I put that I am currently employed? Won't they think it is strange I am leaving after only one month? Or... should i just stick until winter. I can't move closer to the hospital... my husband and I just bought a new house.
  5. Well, I took a job at the u of I hospitals and clinics and the unit I was hired for was rotating shifts. YIKES. I really like the unit, however the rotating shifts scare me. I have read negative things about rotating shifts on this message board. I am really impressed with the hospital I just hope the rotating shifts work for me and maybe in the future I can switch to a straight night schedule.
  6. Congratulations to you!!!I guess our worrying was for nothing because I just found out I PASSED too. I printed out the results just so I didn't second guess what I was actually seeing. I can't believe it, I really was thinking I failed!
  7. Hi, I am not sure what state you are in but in Iowa they sometime post results on Saturday. I took mine on Thursday and I am checking tomorrow. Good Luck to you.
  8. I am going CRAZY! I am so nervous about my NCLEX results! I couldn't sleep last night and I can't eat. I keep on checking on the internet for stats on people passing with 75 questions and then looking up answers of questions I remember. I have come up with 20 that I can remember that I got right. I had a ton of select all that apply and a few drugs that I knew the answer for and a few that I had no clue... Oh the agony. My poor husband and friends are very sick of hearing about this. I hate that they make you wait. I should find out tomorrow morning about my results. I will be so embarrassed to tell my school instructors I failed, I was one their better students...they will be so disappointed in me. To top it off I just received a job offer this morning. I should be thrilled, but how do I say...by the way I can't start my job until March because I failed the nclex? I am afraid they will revoke my offer and I would love to work at this hospital. I am really not sure how I will survive the next 24 hours! HELP!!!!!
  9. Congratulations to you! Go celebrate your new title as a RN. I hope I have the same results in the next day or so.
  10. IFH00--Good luck on your results. Keep thinking positive! I just took the NCLEX today and it shut off at 75 questions too. When I was taking the test I kept on thinking I am failing this. I did well on the Hesi exam (1022), so I didn't feel like I had to study much. I am regretting that decision. I had at least 10 pick all that apply questions, I hate those. It will be a long two days waiting for my results!
  11. Thanks for your reply! I have an interview next week. I am not a huge fan of the rotating shifts, I would much rather do nights only, but if it means that is what it takes to get my foot in the door I will do it.
  12. Hello all,I am a new grad and I am thinking about applying to the University of Iowa Hosptal. Does anyone on this message board work there? Every job posting I looked at has rotating shifts. I am curious to know how the rotating shifts work and do they offer straight days or nights. Thanks!
  13. Hello, I am in the last few months of my LPN to RN program and I need an idea for a leadership project. Our instructors didn't give us an ideas and I am running out of time. One of the students is doing a blood drive and another is teaching some CNA's at her work how to properly do peri-care. Does anyone have any ideas or know of anything that has worked for them in the past?
