I want my BSN where to GO?

Published

Hello,

I have worked as a staff nurse for the past 16 years.

Now I am looking into going back to school for my RN to BSN.

I am not sure where to go or what to look for it has been a long time since school :)

Does anyone know a good online program?

Read a lot a of reviews of some online schools still not sure which one to pick?

I don't want to go into debt paying for it.

Any help would be helpful

Thanks,

Jen

Some people I work with used Ohio University and it was completely online. I am currently working on mine and have used a local university that did some in class and some on line. I felt that worked best for me.

I attended an online RN-BSN program at one of my state universities. When I was researching my options I wanted a reasonably priced education. I looked at per-credit cost, the various fees, etc. Do you have colleagues that can recommend a specific university? Do you work for an employer that offers tuition reimbursement?

Just out of curiosity, what is your motivation for returning to school?

I recommend starting your search for a school with your state universities -- within driving distance, in case you ever want to visit campus. Most state universities offer programs of reasonable quality at a reasonable price for in-state tuition. Unlike "for profit" schools, they are not looking to make a big profit out of you. Their purpose is to serve the citizens of your state.

I also recommend asking around your co-workers for recommendations. It's nice to have someone to talk with who has actually attended the same program and who can "show you the ropes" around their website, curriculum, etc.

Finally, do not be fooled by schools that make it "too easy" to get into. Some of the worst schools make it very easy for anybody to enroll -- because that is how they entrap gullible people into giving them their money. The have "recruiters" who are paid to lure people (anybody) in ... with little regard for whether or not the school is a good fit for their needs. Their job is to "sell" the school to you and hold you by the hand as you enroll so that you don't get away. They are called "advisors" or "couselors," but they are really "salespeople." A high-quality school will probably have a few more requirements you have to meet -- because they have higher standards. Meeting those standards might seem a little more intimidating at first, but once you get into the program, the high quality school may take better care of you than the one that was easier to enter. (That is not always 100% true, but it is often true.)

2. Univ of Texas Arlington ($257/credit)

3. Ohio University ($243/credit)

4. Eastern New Mexico Univ ($203/credit)

My in-state university.... 161 per credit hour. A BSN is a BSN... get the best bang for the buck

There is a huge long-term advantage in opting for a BSN completion program from a well-regarded traditional school. Most schools offer online programs now. Afterward, your diploma and resume/CV will have the name of THAT school... no differentiation between online & classroom programs. It will make a difference.

Go to your state BON and see which online programs meet their approval. It may save you a lot of heartache later on.

Does anybody know anything about Capella? I am looking into programs online for my BSN most nurses I speak with have gone through Chamberlain I find it a little pricey I keep seeing ads for Capella this is little scary I want to choose a reputable program and get the most for my buck.
