I used to not like nurses but I am so grateful for all of you

I had some issues with being a victim of profiling eat the hospital my sister works at when I went to visit her for lunch. I got lost and ended up in the ER and I had asked security for help and I told them she was my sister they accused me of lying, and said what's her pager? I said crap she told me it before, and I forgot, it's some pager they use to verify if someone is legit, I only needed the last 4 digits. My sister is important she is a director of the respiratory and pulmonary unit, so the security guards were like how do you know "An**" sorry don't want to say her name, and I asked them if I could use a phone to call her cell, and they said no. They threatened me with calling the police. This nurse who I guess had heard came up and said are you Ma**, I said yes she goes I paged An** for you she is on her way.

So I am grateful and I realized I was accusing nurses of doing the same thing I was, profiling them and judging them based on things they had in common with certain types of nurses. Do you think profiling is fair or accurate? I hate to say it but I have noticed that it's schooling that seems to be an issue of a nurse being compassionate or not.

Well, that escalated quickly. What a strange post, from start to finish.

You come to a nursing forum, complain about the security staff but then it dawns on you you were judging and profiling nurses...tell a regular contributor and very wise person that she sucks, and describe your overall impression of us as brain dead (as opposed to the nice one.)

Yeah it probably won't go over well....

I had a problem with that security staff not all security staffs, and yes it dawned on me that nurses can be nice, and cause of that incident I realized I had unfairly judged them. I thought it was awesome how that nurse was the only one who helped me out, and since then I have met other nice ones, but if it wasn't for her then no I probably wouldn't have changed my mind. I don't need to explain myself, I wasn't trying to make friends I just said that, I was wrong and I admit it. I have been there done that going off on me, and other nurses

I'm sorry I don't understand what the person posting this thread was trying to say. Profiling nurses? What do you mean? You didn't like nurses for some reason and didn't say what that reason was, and then you talked about how you were annoyed at a security guard who was doing his job, and then went on to ask if profiling is fair. then to put some icing on the cake of strange comments you used some nasty language toward someone you don't know who didn't say anything deserving of your nasty comments.

Why did you want to post any of this? Were we, nurses, supposed to be made happy today because you, an internet stranger, said you used to dislike us for some unknown reason but now don't because someone said she knew who you were?!? This is very weird!

To the original poster...thank you for telling an online community of nurses that you are grateful for all of us. I will give the benefit of the doubt in light of the insults that have been hurled in this thread, and focus on the positive.

Nonetheless, the point has been made and this thread will be closed before it has the chance to implode with more nastiness. Have a pleasurable day, everyone.
