I had some issues with being a victim of profiling eat the hospital my sister works at when I went to visit her for lunch. I got lost and ended up in the ER and I had asked security for help and I told them she was my sister they accused me of lying, and said what's her pager? I said crap she told me it before, and I forgot, it's some pager they use to verify if someone is legit, I only needed the last 4 digits. My sister is important she is a director of the respiratory and pulmonary unit, so the security guards were like how do you know "An**" sorry don't want to say her name, and I asked them if I could use a phone to call her cell, and they said no. They threatened me with calling the police. This nurse who I guess had heard came up and said are you Ma**, I said yes she goes I paged An** for you she is on her way.
So I am grateful and I realized I was accusing nurses of doing the same thing I was, profiling them and judging them based on things they had in common with certain types of nurses. Do you think profiling is fair or accurate? I hate to say it but I have noticed that it's schooling that seems to be an issue of a nurse being compassionate or not.

What does this have to do with nurses? Your issue was with security.
YOU are the one profiling nurses. Without a clue of what we do.
P.S. Your sister is NOT more important than any other nurse.

Schooling? Yes, I can clearly see how the lack of educationcontributes to one being mis- or uninformed.
But no, no amount of academic education can teach anyone to be compassionate or caring. Either that's already imbedded within you as a learned behavior while growing up as a individual or it's not. If it is, life's circumstances will pull it out of you.
If it's not, you could care less about what really goes on in the world around you; you simply form your opinions based on your reality, and act or react accordingly.
Now, there are a lot of straight-faced, matter-of-fact individuals in this field who happen to be excellent nurses. It's hard to know whether or not they have compassion unless you prejudge them. They are paid to do a job and that's exactly what they do. You would have to see them outside of the workplace to know who these nurses really are.
I would say that most of the time, the layperson's evaluation of the nurse has absolutely nothing to do with his/her professional knowledge and skills. I think this applies to you...based on your post.

Been there done that, you can go back and reread what I wrote. Also my sister isn't more important than any other nurse, you're right, cause she isn't a nurse, I said she was a department director and is a big deal, she has an office with her name on the door, so sorry you suck
My issue has to do with nurses being nice not nurses who are brain dead
This post right here is why you've just lost the internet for today. BTDT doesn't suck. Your reaction to her post sucks.
Oh no! I suck! Man that hurts.

I agree and I admit I unfairly evaluated a nurse based on unfair characterizations. It seems nurses are guilty of it just as much, look at the way you all attack when I said that I had a problem with nurses, and admitted I was wrong. I said I apologized, and I was wrong. I know more profiled nurses than they profiled me as a patient. It's a vicious cycle and no one but security guards are the winners, i'm joking.

No one attacked you. In fact, *you* attacked someone by telling them they sucked just because you didn't like what they had to say.

You come to a nursing forum, complain about the security staff but then it dawns on you you were judging and profiling nurses...tell a regular contributor and very wise person that she sucks, and describe your overall impression of us as brain dead (as opposed to the nice one.)
Yeah it probably won't go over well....
