I resigned my first poopy nursing job but I have a question?

Published

So I resigned from a med surg unit within my 120 evaluation period to see if I would be a good fit for the unit.

Things were not working out sociably and team work wise too. There were some real smart *** nurses their with 6-10 years of tenure.

They would give me bullying looks. I just don't know what is up with this kind of attitude. I felt this same thing in nursing school. Really snakey and vicuous classmates. I just don't understand what one gets from being like this. I don't think I will ever understand. It is not like we are making bank with this job. We are more likely to get back injures and all sooner than a mechanical engineer or something.

So to my main question since I resigned within the trial period, am I for rehire or based on my performance and if the manager liked me or not they can put "Not for rehire" or can they not do that because I was within my 3 month trial period?

Another sneaky form of attack. this is the truth. The schools lure people in to thinking it is a great profession. It is not. Maybe to some it may be, but many quit bedside nursing.

Looks like you yourself left bedside, hence your title MSN.

Why did you go for MSN? Why not clean poop as retirement?

I think you need to go seek counseling as you are full of poopies. Most of us are writing the harsh reality and difficulties of the job, and that there is no change coming anytime soon.

Yes dictators kill and rise above all. What did you expect, life is chill, and the world is a safe playground. The hospitals or any employer will fire you in a heart beat without any remorse. Is that so humane.

So are people all that kind in general?

You answer that for yourself. Maybe you should go back to bedside nursing if you are not already there.

When patients lie and get a nurse in trouble and perhaps fired, is that right for them to do so?

Should I still love and care for most people? I do, but it has just made me more cautious. No one wants to lose their RN license which is their livlihood.

I'm glad you are looking for a more suitable career, but these remarks are worrisome. Please seek counseling ASAP.

Reading your posts makes me feel bad for you. I know you have a mental health issues that is going undiagnosed. I hope you seek the help you need & soon.

But I never said I want people dead either. I just said it has made me not like people more than before. I think I overstated my frustration.

Well when you make comments about how your not surprised dictators kill millions of people (twice) & wonder why your classmates & coworkers don't say hi to you, put 2+2 together.

I will jump on the bandwagon & agree that you need psychiatric help. You should not get another nursing job until you receive the help you need. I have a short temper but I have never wanted people dead.

My opinion will probably be unpopular...

It is my opinion that no one in this world, not even coworkers, owes us acknowledgement with a "Hi" or "Do you need any help?" The only places where people regularly say these canned statements are fast food joints and retail ("Hi, can I help you? Do you want fries with that shake?").

Collegial relationships are earned through the passage of time, grace, and reciprocal trust. I find that genuinely nice people are almost always acknowledged with a "Hello" and offers of help because coworkers trust these people to reciprocate in another time of need.

In a nutshell, my advice is to give a little, and you'll receive in return. Treat others as you'd want to be treated. Acknowledge people, and soon they'll acknowledge you. Good luck!

I some what agree but the expected social behavior from the previous professional environments I have been in up until now have engrained the "you must say good morning to every single person you walk by or you are labeled rude and unprofessional" has me set in my ways a bit. 😉

I think that the culture in office environments is just so vastly different than certain healthcare settings, almost the opposite it seems. The culture shock and disconnect between the two cause this type of reaction from people who are used to working in overly friendly, excessively politically correct and teamwork obsessed environments. When you switch gears to certain healthcare fields the dynamic is so different that most places immediately feel toxic but it's the nature of healthcare.

Every corporate job I've ever held would (unofficially) blacklist you for not fitting in socially. They want to make sure you fit in with the company culture, participate in team building events, etc. If you failed to say good morning to every single person you walked by you were labeled "anti-social" and "rude".

So I do understand where this type of thinking comes from but people like the OP need to get that when patient care comes first social pleasantries comes second. Although I wonder if an argument can be made that better teamwork will lead to better patient outcomes? Hmm, we better have a dress down Friday and a department potluck to discuss this. I will start the email bingo...yeah don't miss those days one bit.

Another attack.

Why do you think dictators do what they do then?

This is the second time you said this.

You need serious/intensive psychiatric help. Immediately.

This takes venting to a higher plane. I really hope that things get better for you, OP.

Another attack. This is hilarious. All based on words. What if I am not even a nurse LOL

What if I am a fat chick in the engineering program LOL.

You need to watch the history channel or something.

Then I still think you should get help. It is not normal behavior to pretend that you're a nurse and obsess about feces like you do.

Then you should get help just the same. If you are nurse who is making dictator comments or a "fat chick in the engineering program" making all this up, either one should get help from a mental health professional because it isn't right.

And thanks to all who helped me answer the HR question. Take care.
