Hi everyone!
LPN school starts for me January and I just passed the entrance exam last week :yeah:so I am very excited to start. I have a few questions because I am a little bit anxious about the program because I have heard horror stories about the pharmacology and physiology class and also im not that great at math. So here are my questions for you all
1. What was your favorite class in nursing school and why?
2. What was your worst class and what tools did you use to help you pass?
3. How many hours per week did you study?
4. Do you have any children and how was that like while being in nursing school?(I have a small child)
5. What was your overall experience?
Thanks :)

1. what was your favorite class in nursing school and why?
pharmacology!!! it was terribly hard and you will learn sooo much! and, the class went by so fast.
2. what was your worst class and what tools did you use to help you pass?
our summer semester......it was ob and nero. i hate neuro....and i hate babies. make note cards!!!! and acronyms are a lifesaver. make sure you truly understand what your textbook is saying!!! dont just memorize.
3. how many hours per week did you study?
pretty much every waking hour that i wasnt in class or working...i worked about 20 hours/week.
4. do you have any children and how was that like while being in nursing school?(i have a small child)
nope, no kids....but sometimes, my boyfriend could probably count as one. every relationship will suffer a little bit. but, remember....the program will flyyyy by. everything will be back to normal before you know it.
5. what was your overall experience?
tiring!!! you will be tired all the time.
you will do great!!!! just don't get behind! keep up with your reading and it always helps to kiss *** to your teachers.

i liked the pysch. classes. i thought it was interesting to learn about mental illnesses.
i strongly disliked obstetrics. i have no desire to work in that area. i also would ever work pediatrics. do not have the patience for children. not trying to be rude, but i know what i like and what i don't like. i have no kids yet by the way hehe.
1-2 if that. i was never much of a studier, but i will say i had to study some to get by.
no kids. i imagine it would be a lot tougher with them to take care of.
pretty good. pretty easy. went fast. wish i would have went for rn right away, but oh well. that's life

1. No favorite....
2. Pharm ... the instructor was about as interesting as a corpse...she was an incredibly smart lady, just.....boring and quiet.
3. Countless...
4. 2 kids, one was 15/16 while in school, and one was 12/13 at the same time.
5. My overall experience was very positive, for my program. Of course, it helped, at the time, that our local hospital had an LPN program that had a job waiting for you when you graduated from their program.... apparently, there is no guaranteed job offer for graduates of the same program, now....
I love my job..... MOST nights...

I graduated in November 2009 and have been working as an LVN since March of this year. I love my job, the hard work, long hours, and grueling pace was worth it. Although, at the time, I wanted to quit so many times, but stuck with it.
1. What was your favorite class in nursing school and why? I loved Pharmacology and Psychology. There is so much to learn, the math is pretty straight forward (make yourself a note card) and you will find out you will use the information about drugs on a DAILY basis once you are working. Try to relate things, not memorize, it's easier.
2. What was your worst class and what tools did you use to help you pass? I don't like peds or OB. I have no desire to work in this area, so had no real interest. Besides, everything changes (meds, labs, vitals, etc.) when it comes to kids.
3. How many hours per week did you study? Figure on for every hour of class, you will study at least 2-3. You will be tired! You will be cranky! But, you will learn lots. Set yourself a study schedule and stick to it.
4. Do you have any children and how was that like while being in nursing school?(I have a small child) No children at home (I'm 56), but you need to ensure you have someone that will be able to help you with your child. When the child is sick, winy, etc., you need to FOCUS on nursing, so make sure you have a support system to take over the mamma for a while. So many of our students missed alot of class because of sick kids, and they paid for it!
5. What was your overall experience? LOVED IT! It's HARD work, no two ways about it! You will be tired, you will ask yourself why you started this, you will want to quit, you will want to just stay in bed with the covers over your head...But, stick with it, get up, put on that uniform, and work hard. The rewards are so worth it!
Good luck!

Hi, I've been an LPN for 8 years and don't regret a minute of it.
didn't have a favorite...
I really disliked my psych rotation - even tried working a few months as a psych nurse but it just creeps me out...
every waking moment - my program was 18 months with evening classes 3 times a week and clinicals on the weekend
here is why I studied every chance I had... I went to school while homeschooling my 2 girls. Granted, I didn't have a job outside the house, but believe me, it was very taxing on me. However, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
not that great with the instructors I had, but you just have to make it happen. put forth your best effort and work hard. it'll be SO worth it. you can do it!:)

caveat (i graduated in '72)
a&p and micro loved the straight science (shoulda been an mlt or mt) - we took advanced pharm after we graduated and passed boards at that time
ob/peds - not a kid fan, i just slogged through it as best i could
every waking moment - this social butterfly became a hermit for a year.
no and glad i didn't
i loved my nursing school it was really tough with lots of clinical hours so i felt pretty well prepaired to do my job.

I studied every hour I was awake and not in school so... about 5 hours a night and all weekend, that makes, about 40 hours a week. I was the top student in my graduating class.
My kids are grown thank god

1. What was your favorite class in nursing school and why? My favorite class was my Adult III class. It was the last quarter and it's when everything just "clicked" and started to make sense!
2. What was your worst class and what tools did you use to help you pass? Pharmacology was a tough class. I used flash cards and drilled myself everyday.
3. How many hours per week did you study? It depended on what was going on that week, but I at least opened my books 2 hours everyday beyond class time.
4. Do you have any children and how was that like while being in nursing school?(I have a small child) No children.
5. What was your overall experience? I loved it. It was hard and fast but it has always been my passion to be a nurse, and now I am!
