I have seen TONS of people who have said "nursing is my second, third or fourth career." As I have become more and more curious I was wanting to start a thread to see what areas and walks of life all the nurses and student nurses had before embarking on this incredible medical journey.
I will go first.
I was a TRUCK DRIVER prior to being a nursing student..
NEXT.
I am excited to see what you all did in your PAST LIVES>>>>>
Direct care worker in a state institution for developmentally disabled adults
Assistant manager in a group home for DD adults
Vocational specialist for Easter Seals (accompanied and provided support to a disabled woman at her job)
Residential worker in group home for chronic mentally ill adults
I was a Plant manager at a company that repaired steel mill parts. Then I was in an MVA and spent 3 months in a hospital. I've seen nursing from the other side. When I cot out of the hospital my Job was no longer there, so I decided it was time to give back. Do unto others as has been done for you. It was tough getting a job at my age but I finally found one that would take a chance.........now it's up to me to KEEP it..... No looking back and no regrets ..... Old Dog New Trick......
I was a computer science/electrical engineering major, an accouting major, a microbiology major, and a psychology major. :)
Jobwise, I was a gymnastics coach, a hostess, a waitress, a project accountant, and an auditor for E&Y, a volunteer to teach computer classes, a computer builder/repairer, and a volunteer at a Children's Hospital.
We can sum me up as being very indecisive.
So let's see, prior to becoming a nursing student...I was...
A men's department associate
A grounds worker at a theme park
A movie theater usher
A ride attendant at another theme park
A first aid worker in said theme park
A busboy
A field EMT, then paramedic
and now, a nursing student.
Cool thread....
