I was picked in the lottery!!!

Published

O M G, I am soooo happy right now! Out of 585 applications, my name came up in the first 100, which means I should get into Spring 2014 at CCSF (they pick 50 for fall; 50 for spring). Nothing's set in stone until I get the official letter, but I'm still going to celebrate!!!

My CPR expired. I believe that it has to be CPR BLS for healthcare provider. But I'll wait for the packet to make sure.

I haven't received my registration in my email. I registered for ccsf for spring 2012. That does mean I have to re-register again? Not quite sure how ccsf works w/ registration.

If you look online in the CCSF nursing website on the link for the handout or handbook it says what CPR you have to have which is BLS for healthcare. I took mine through safety training seminars and it's American heart. I understand not waiting till the last minute, I want to make sure I have time to get my physical and such.

From the previous comment it seems they will be sending packets out within the next week or so..

You shouldnt have to re register maybe you just have a later date?

I was wondering if I should just go ahead and do the CPR, and not keep waiting. It's just driving me nuts.

Is this where you signed up? CPR, BLS, ACLS, and First-aid classes in San Francisco Bay Area

I'm thinking it must be the $80 class.

Looks like they offer a lot of different dates/times. I guess I shouldn't worry so much.

By the way, I needed to get 1 more TB skin test, and I called my doctor to make an appointment and they said they have NONE left. They said there is a shortage right now, so they can only do the TB blood test. Aaaargh!!!

Anyone else have difficulty with this?

yeah thats where I signed up. They offer it pretty often so I wouldnt be too worried. I have not made any doctors appts yet because I want to know exactly what I need before I do. When I went abroad in May I got alot of shots and also working in healthcare I already got TB tested like 2 months ago so I may not need it again. There was a TB shortage bc of the govt shut down :/ Next week I hope to get our packets ! I am getting so anxious and want to start reading and getting ahead of things

Did you do the TB skin test, and did you do it twice? According to the handbook for 2012, we will need it twice. And it says "skin" test, so I am thinking the Quantiferon blood test will not qualify. Maybe they will give an exception due to the shortage?

/sigh.

I went to ccsf on Monday to make sure that my classes that I took from another college will get transferred. The counselor went with me to the nursing department. I forgot her name but the administrative assistant of the program told me that we should get our packet by the week of veteran's day Nov 11 I believe. Anyone coming from the eastbay? I wish we can carpool. Is anyone working while in the program?[/quote']

I'll be on vacation the week the packets arrive. I hope we don't have to respond to anything before I get back. I live in the East Bay by Concord, where are you?

Yeah I did the skin test twice

@chasngmydream, I live in union city. But I usually stay in San Leandro. Hopefully we can carpool... I'll keep you posted on here if I get my packet. And I'll let you know if anythings needs to be done asap

Sorry about that! Didn't see the message on the thread.

They honestly haven't given us that much more info. First we heard we were being absorbed by other programs...

Then we heard we would be allowed to finish it out because the program receives funding from somewhere else and that the program alone us accredited.

So I don't know. Kind of irritating not knowing.

It's been over a week since I emailed TWO different people at the RN department. I have still received no reply whatsoever.

My registration window opens in 5 days, so really don't know what they expect us to do without our info. packet.

Should I just go ahead and try to sign up for nursing classes? 50, 50A and 50L?

Anyone know?

I talked to the nursing dept on the phone Monday and the lady who picked up the phone said she was just finishing up packets as we spoke. She said that if she finishes early she will email and we can come pick them up if not we should receive them by the 12th. I mean we are the only ones that can sign up for the nursing classes so they won't fill up. I am in your boat though I just would like to know my schedule already so I can start planning.

Folks, I moved this to the California forum since it is a college-specific topic (which we don't normally leave in PreNursing) Thanks! :)
