  1. You need a good understanding of statistics in order to understand your patients potential risks. For example a patient with aortic valve endocarditis has 80% chance of heart failure, and with mitral valve endocarditis it's 50%. So with this data based on research you can better formulate nursing diagnosis and treat your patient accordingly. This is just one example, but there is also the importance of knowing how to utilize studies from evidence based practiced to create patient interventions. This is how nurses have come up with new methods of practice, and is also the reason for many methods already in practice.
  2. I'm a 1st semester. Don't forget, you need all the titers, not immunization records. And yes, it's fall and spring, and summer bridge classes for new students. I recommend the bridge classes if you can do it, you will be tested on med math and terminology during 1st semester, and they won't go over it in class. So far it's been intense, no free time, tons of assigned reading, lots of paperwork for clinical. Test nearly every week, and paperwork due every week.
  3. Haha. I think a white tank would be okay. I remember them just saying no long sleeves underneath or anything that shows through. I might do the white tank thing too. I'm also finding a white or nude sports bra works for me. And nude color underwear.
  4. Oh no...Hopefully they can send you the correct ones! Good thing there is still time. What did they send you instead?
  5. Hm, okay, thanks. I already signed and turned in the one in the packet they gave us, it was the uniform/dress code agreement. The one at the end of the handbook is a form stating you have indeed received the CCSF RN manual. Yeah you're right. I just noticed on the checklist they gave us it says "due by the first day of class". By the way, I looked up reviews for our pharm instructor, and now I'm a little bit worried! I wish I knew someone who has gone thru these classes already. Do you guys know anyone?
  6. Hey so have you guys finished the assigned reading for Potter & Perry? I'm wondering if we will have tests/quizzes on that, or would it be for the midterm/final? And does anyone have insight on how the tests will be formatted? Short answer, multiple choice, etc? I'm assuming that maybe it's just like the sample problems she gave us during orientation, but I've taken plenty of classes where instructors like to throw curve balls! Also, remember they said to sign the form in the Nursing Handbook? Did you guys do that already? Do we just bring it the first day of class? And the only handbook available online was the 2012 version, I am assuming that's still current for us. Is that right? :/
  7. Awwww I have fur babies too, I'm so sorry for your loss.
  8. Yes, that is what my understanding is. I am just going to go by the schedule they gave us. I have skills (50L) on Mondays at 7 AM, then pharm (50A) on at 2:10 PM. And fundamentals (50) on Tuesdays at 8:10 AM. Hey did she say if our medical terminology test will be ONLY on the list she gave us? And it doesn't include the abbreviations, right? I remember her implying that a test including the abbreviations would come later. Is it just me or was that orientation sort of disorganized?
  9. Right. I don't think we need to wear it for class. I don't know why I got mine so early. I ordered it the day of the fitting and it arrived right before Christmas. I guess I got lucky.
  10. Hey is everyone done with the certified background stuff? Does "compliant" basically mean it's approved? And where did you all have your patches sewn on?
  11. Thanks for checking. I wasn't totally sure either.
  12. Thanks. I rather not bother ------------------, she told me "I will not be accessing my email again until Jan 6th... contact Certified Background about it." I'm not sure what the issue is. But I am 99.999% sure you are right, it looks like an admin resource.
  13. Anyone else notice that the downloadable version of the forms online at certifiedbackground.com are different than the one's in our packet? The online version has a different 3rd page. It is some weird chart thing. Certifiedbackground.com contacted me stating I must complete that chart and resubmit everything for approval. Which is fine. But it was NOT in our original packet. I told -------------- but she was no help at all. Am I going crazy?
