What is an observational unit?
I am trying to find a job as a PCT, and there is one open in the Observational Unit. I don't know exactly what an observational unit is, and what kind of patients are in there.

Giving up your seat...
Anyone who gave up their seat in Nursing School before? How well did it turn out for you after that? How did you cope up?I just wanna know other people's experience about giving up their seat in Nursing School. For me, it was because of a financial reason. I'm 18 and I got in to my first choice BSN program and I never worked before. However, two months before NS school starts my mom who pays for college got fired. So basically, we are broke (danger of losing our home) and my mom's a single mom who had to pay bills and mortgage, etc. She was unemployed for over two months and Nursing School is coming which means we need more money. We did try student loans but its still not enough. My mom looks so depressed and stuff and I feel so sorry for her so I suggested that I wont attend Nursing School this fall.At first, she doesn't want me to because I'll be wasting 1 semester but in the end she agreed. So, I called my advisor and told him that I'm not attending the Fall semester and i'll probably reapply for spring. Even though my advisor told me that my chances for Spring is almost 100%, I'm still very sad about it. I cried for many days and I can't sleep. I am so jealous about my classmates who are going to start school next week :<.> Also, after writing this down, I kinda feel better .

Do you have a day off/free time?
@that guy.. Well, I used to babysit for 6 months but that doesnt really count as a work experience..My scholarship and financial aid took care of my pre-nursing classes so I don't have to work and I have to get a 3.5 for my scholarship (for some people 3.5 is no biggie but for me it is : @ALL Thank you guys, its really helpful. I guess I really have to know myself if I really want to work or not .I am just really concerned about not having some health care related experience after I graduate because of the competition and stuff.I'm also concerned and nervous about Nursing School itself. I do believe I can make it even If I'm going to work part-time since I also know many people who are going to work part-time too but it requires careful planning and time management. @ashely Per diem sounds awesome, I'll probably check that out. I think that's what I really want.

Do you have a day off/free time?
Hello, I'm somewhat nervous on trying to get a part-time job while in Nursing School. I don't have any job experience. I'm trying to get into retail jobs first and hopefully after I finish at least one semester in NS, I will try to apply for tech positions (since most of the hospitals here requires at least 1 semester in nursing school if you're not a cna). One of my main problem is that I'm afraid I'm not gonna have enough time to study and I'm not gonna have some "free" time. So yeah, I'm curios if someone here don't have a day off and they were able to pull it off. For all the people who have a day-off, how many days do/did you have? Also, I'm single (18 years old) and I live with my parents. My mom pays half of my tuition, and I have a subsidize loan that pays for the other half. I'm gonna start my BSN this Aug. 30 .

How important is statistics in nursing and nursing school?
thank you so much for the replies.. I did took some Statistics in high school which was a dual enrollment class, the class was Pre-calculus and Statistics, but we never really went in depth with statistics though.I couldn't drop the course because I already got in to nursing school and I have to finish this before fall semester. It's such a relief to hear its not really that important.

Also, I'm trying to find a cheap but nice health insurance, our school offers a group health insurance but its not really that great. We also have to do some physical examinations, plus more and more expenses!!!

How important is statistics in nursing and nursing school?
In the program that I applied to we have to take Statistics class. I'm currently taking it this summer, but I'm not learning anything from it. I took it as an online class because its the only one that fits in my schedule. In this class, our instructor gives us powepoints that is made by the book company, we have to take chapter quizzes online and we can take it how many times we want. The test questions came from the chapter quizzes, so in the test the only thing that I studied is the chapter quizzes. I only memorize/familiarize the questions and answers from the quizzes and I makes high A's. I don't even ready my books. So yeah, I'm kinda worried about not learning from this class because it might give me some negative effect in Nursing School.

Gadsden State Fall 2011????
Hi there.. TEAS Score: 62%...It's pretty low, and I am really sad and frustrated about it. The good thing though is that I finished all my prerequisite,so hopefully that will help my admission points. If my calculation is correct my admission score is about 185 points. I always pray that hopefully there's going to be a handful of applications that's gonna be ignored because they didn't knew about the TEAS :).
