I Passed Med Surg!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I don't post a lot, just lurk mostly, but I HAD to post to say, I passed Med-Surg!!!!!:roll This was a miserable semester with Advanced Pharmacology, Med-Surg, Psychiatric Nursing and Geriatric nursing all crammed into 10 weeks. But I did it, it's over and I Passed What's sad is that I have 2 friends, the three of us have been inseperable since we started the RN program last fall, and one of them didn't make it. :o My heart breaks for her. Needless to say we didn't do much celebrating today. (only 10 of 30 people in the class passed)

So I come to all of you who have been in, or will be in my shoes soon, to say I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!:) Only 3 more semesters, 6 HESI's, and 1 NCLEX to go and I will be and RN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way to go, Danelle!

I have one more week of my monster 14-credit med-surg class, so I can understand your pain ... hats off to you! :balloons:

Danelle, congratulations. I passed med -surg as well. Eight weeks of pure, non-stop, balls to the wall learning! Our class, after two semesters, is down from our original 70 to 50 students. Yeah, not much to celebrate. But I congratulate all of us who a taking another step toward our goal.

Good job Danelle! I'm sure you worked hard to pass :).

cogratulations!!! God bless you...

I don't know what I would do without this board!!

Get the class syllabus and study guide and start reading now. I know some of you do not believe in starting early, but believe me the day of our final, med-surg test it was nice to know I did everything I could have done to pass that class. And, although we had chapter objectives and teacher posted notes, there was a ton of information that we were tested on that was included in the chapters but not necessarily discussed in lecture. Unless you made an effort to read the chapters the final exam was a make or break test....10 students failed. Example of such a question concerned nuring interventions for a recovering IICP patient. In class we decussed in detail interventions for possible IICP and actual IICP, but unless you read all the information the test question would have left you questioning the possibilities. In general the information is not hard; it is just an abundance of information with many, many details. Leisurely reading now is much better than frantic skimming!

What school in Alabama do you go to if you do not mind my asking? I am starting school this August in Alabama.

Thanks.

Where to begin.

1. Like hyperstudent said, start reading now. You need to stay caught up the entire time. If you get behind, you are DONE.

2. it will help A LOT if you get a GOOD understanding of the following concepts and can apply them.

-Fluid and electrolyte balances

-how the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems work

- and the INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE (almost every disorder initially causes the inflammatory response and if you can use that and understand how the body reacts, you will be way ahead as far as understanding the signs and symptoms.

3. Get the Lippincott review series books, and a good NCLEX-RN review book, I like Saunders comprehensive NCLEX Review.

4. Do not cram the night before:nono: , study some all week long.

5. This is some advice I got form this board, and it has really helped, Always ask WHY, WHY, WHy, as you are reading. Keep asking on every point until you run out of whys. It sounds silly, but it works.

Best of luck, just stay positive and you will do fine.:specs:

I can now say it loud, and say it proud ...

I'm done with med-surg!! :)

Ended up with a B. I have two weeks off, then I start mother/baby on Aug. 24. But for right now, it's time to relax, put away ALL books for now, schedule my pedicure, and see if the frozen margarita mix is frozen yet ...

WOOO HOOO!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! I got a B too. Me and my 2 year old have done nothing but hang out together all week! No books, no school, no schedule. I start Peds and Psych II next. our mother/baby is the next semester. Congratulations again!!!

I'm taking med/surg in the spring after my first semester of nursing school. I've talked to several students who've said that it is the hardest in the program. It's the weed out time where many people can fail. This is why I'm trying not to work that semester, and just focus on school. Good luck to everyone.

I start med-surg fall semester as well. I heard the same thing... it's the weeding out period. I start back Aug. 16th and we do 3 weeks of Peds and then 13 weeks of med-surg. I'm kind of freaked out about it. :uhoh21:

Thanks for the heads up Danelle. :)
