To whom it may concern;

Hi!

I passed California NCLEX in 2008, but I did not do anything after that because I dont have social security number. And I dont know how to get it, I remember that year, what I knew was I need to go to Califonia,USA to get a ssn, but i did not have means to go there.

Now, I just want to get a License card proving that I am a registered nurse in USA, because I believe that it is my privilege to have a license because I earned it by passing NCLEX.

I dont know what to do, any help please!

Should i go to California to get social security number and get my license or i can get it even i'm here in Singapore?

Is it still possible to get my license now even if i passed NCLEX in 2008?

Why do you want a U.S. nursing license if you're living in Singapore?

I would have conversation with a travel nurse company that can assist you in obtaining work in the US if that is what you are wanting to do. If you passed the NCLEX, do you currently an active license? In other words, did you keep it active? These are all important, as it is not just passing the NCLEX it is keeping your license active with continuing education.

You could also have conversation with an immigration attorney. I am not sure that one can just "get a social security number". There is a process that one needs to follow, and a lawyer who specializes in immigration can direct you.

I would assume that the job prospects are better in the US--as is the pay.

because it's an achievement for me, passing the NCLEX. My friend here has a nursing license card from New York. But California has different rules with NY board of nursing, they were asking for ssn before releasing a license card not like NY.

It's amazing to me that someone can sit for a national professional licensure exam without a social security number.

As has been said, passing NCLEX was just the beginning. You must have obtained & maintained your license for these 7 years, including Continuing Education and paying renewal fees.

Moved to nurse registration.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Many states will not issue a license without a US SSN and some states may issue a license without a US SSN but will not renew without a US SSN. To get a US SSN it is not a case of going to CA you need a valid work/immigrant visa before. US SSN will be issued. Unless you apply to a state that gives a license you have no choice but wait

@silverdragon102 you have the best answer in my inquiries, thank you! I understand now.. I will just let it go..

I think you can transfer your NCLEX results to NY (you will still need to meet their particular requirements). Contact the NY BRN directly and get an answer there.

Yes you can get you license like in NY but you can't never renew it like it other states, yes passing nclex is an achievement but technically it's temporary only. it's better if you're going to have you US license in a life time basis. Try to become a nurse there in SG than spending time to get your US license. Just saying. Getting SSN is the one number 1 step to renew and get US license.
