I am a new nurse trying to figure out how to get a doctor to stop bullying me at work.

Nurses Relations

Published

I've been a nurse for just under a year. I'm being bullied at work by a doctor. I work in a cardiac ICU so we work collaboratively with our doctors toward the goal of good, safe patient care. There is one doctor who has begun to target me with his bully behavior. He yells and is disrespectful in the way he speaks to me both in private and in front of patients and coworkers. He makes comments to others that insinuate I am incompetent and don't do my job. I've had nothing but praise from other doctors, coworkers, even the house supervisor about my performance, knowledge, and professionalism. What can I do to stop this doctor from treating me this way. He has a reputation for doing this to most of the staff but I refuse to spend my career, which I love, being treated this way. Help!! All insight appreciated.

This is supposed to be a place of support and guidance for fellow nurses .... many responders did that, and to those people, I thank you for your time and input. A select few have ruined it for all. If I've misinterpreted any comments, I extend my most sincere apologies.

This is a discussion board primarily for nurses. That does not mean all posts are going to be helpful in your opinion. Posts that you disagree with aren't necessarily "ruining it for all"; it's a difference of opinion and often coming from a different point of view. Personally, I think getting all offended over something on the internet is an overreaction. Also, members do not have the ability to delete their posts/threads. I've notified the moderators of your request, however.

This is not a support group, although it is a place where you can find guidance. If you're willing to accept it. Replies which you find nonproductive and unhelpful may indeed contain wisdom that could help you, if you were only willing to accept guidance with which you disagree. Whether or not YOU accept the help and guidance with which you have been gifted, other readers may. In that case, the many replies with which you disagree may indeed be helpful -- to others. Thank you for starting the thread so that others may learn from it.
