I need some stethoscope recommendations

Published

Hi! I need to upgrade my $49.95 stethoscope for clinical rotations. Any recommendations/ preferences (Littman, Welch Allyn, or Ultrascope)? Thanks.

Allheart.com has the best prices on stethoscopes that I found. I'm a Dec 06 Grad (Going to work in a ICU stepdown unit in Jan) and recently upgraded my Littman Classic SE II to the Master Cardiology ('round 135). The difference is amazing!!!!

Allheart has great prices on other brands too. I asked around and around and never really got a good response as far as what makes Littman the best. Heard a lot 'bout their soft sealing ear tips, double tube insulation (less distortion), and just that most MDs that use their own steth always have a Littman... Guess it was worth the investment.

Good Luck

Is hearing impairment an issue? If so, I definitely have a recommendation!

I have the Littman Cardiology III and I love it. *Everyone* who borrows it from me--Dr's and RN's-- can't believe how good you can hear with it.

Everyone's hearing is different, you need to find what works for you. Go into a uniform store and try several and find what works for you. That is th ebest suggestion that any of us can give to you.

Whats wrong with a $50 stethoscope? As a nursing student you will hear what you need to hear with even one of the disposable stethoscopes, lub-dub, breath sounds, etc. I think paying several hundred bucks for a stethoscope is unnecessary (and those are the ones that are more apt to walk away). Paying more for a stethoscope is not going to magically make grade 1 murmurs and extra heart sounds jump out at you. I've been using a $30 stethoscope I got off ebay for three years and have never had a problem, noone ever came behind me and asked how I missed the fill in the blank on so and so. I've used other people's expensive stethoscopes too and have never noticed a remarkable difference.
