Hi! I would just like to share up my situation at the moment. To start with, I've been a registered nurse for 1 year already and I got 6 months training in a private hospital as a volunteer...and just recently, I got hired in a government hospital as an employee under some program..and what concerns me is that...my superior assigned me in an orthopedic department since one of the attendants is on leave; so she wanted me to assume the role of the attendant temporarily until she comes back after 1 month. So, I accepted the offer but to be honest, I really pity myself because I feel like I am just their helper wherein they can command me to get something from the pharmacy or to this and that...and it's so insulting for me. if this happens to you, what would you do?
I certainly hope at work you don't exude the vibe you're giving off here. I'm unsure of where in the world you're located, but here in the US, many new grads would be very happy to have a foot in the door somewhere, even as an attendant. It can't hurt- while you're there make nicey nice with the managers and the powers that be. For heavensake, don't think for a second that as an RN you're not going to be running errands! I went on a "field trip" to the other side of the hospital the other day to grab boxed lunches for patients who were hungry at 0245 in the morning! It's a nice change of scenery!
Hi! thank you for responding to this post. I very much appreciate your response. Yeah, with that you said, I realized that I was just prideful to think that doing an attendant's job is an insult to my profession. Well, you're right..since I am still new in the department, I still have to learn the routine. Thank you so much! God bless yoU!

My only concern would be .. working in a role that is not in your classification as an RN.
Most facilities would not allow that.. how does that play out in a government facility?
If you are employed as an attendant.. and you see a situation that requires a registered nurse intervention..
are you and your license covered?

Yes...Sometimes, I function as a RN and when the floor is so busy then that's the time that I do both...as an RN and attendant... :)

I don't get it either. Was it a "translocated" post maybe?
