hello there. i'm not an lpn as of yet, but i will be in 2008 permitting if i pass the test. i'm not really good in math and i have disliked it all my life. as you know, nurses need a lot of math in order to do doseage calculations, ht. and wt., surface area, drug doseages for peds, monitoring iv, giving im, sq, or id injection etc...i hope math won't be my downfall as a nurse because i really love nursing! does anybody have any suggestions about an easier way to do mental math for drug calculations??? any help will be appreciated. thank you so much. :):):)
Hey there.. I'm glad to see that you are doing great! I'm happy to hear that you have such enthusiaum for clincials. Don't worry; the time will come soon enough. So you're about to start your Biology 101 class in two weeks? It sounds exciting. Please let me know how it goes. I rememeb when I took my biology class; it was my 10th grade year. I absolutely loved it! You know, there is nothing more interesting than the human body. I will go to clincials again on Tuesday of next week. I wil let you know how it goes. Yes, to answer your question, I do have some memorization tips. 1. Memorize litlle by little in a repetitive motion. For example, the functions of the muscles are : provide movement, provide heat, protects internal organs. I would begin by saying " provide movement." Then I would say "provides movement, provides heat." Finaly, I would conclude " Provides movement, provides heat, protects internal organs. 2. Find out what study method is best for you. I'm a visual. 3. NEVER "crash" study! You are not going to get a heap of information overnight. 4. retype/ rewite your notes. This helps that brain "see" information over and over again. You wrote it in class, the once; you rewote that's twice; you studied it; that's three times. You study it again; that four times. By this time, it souldn't be too hard to digest the info. Well, I hope this helps.. I'll keep u posted. Have a good day.
Thanks for the memorizing tips I will definitley use them and i am sure that they will help me to understand the material better, thanks so much!!! I hope that you have a great clinical on Tuesday, keep me posted on how it went, okSorry but I have two questions if you could please help!!! The first one is, can you recommend any study tips because I can really use some good study tips so when i comes time for a test my mind won't go blank!!! I freeze when it comes time for test!!! And the second one is, is there a website you can recommend where you can find out what can of study method works for me? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much, sorry about all the questions!!!
Sorry I think I already asked you about study tips forget about that one, can you recommend a website if there is one that can tell me what study method works for me, thanks so much. It's not problem at all! It's no bother... if you have any questions, just ask. Well those memorization tips will work for study tips. But here are some more. First, find nice quiet place to study that is comfortable and fimiliar to you. It should be free from distractions. Take off your cell phone if you have too! 2. When studying eat a snack such as those "string" cheese, or a fruit cut up into slices. I dunno why, but this works best for me. 3. When test time comes, don't worry so much over a test; cuz' that is what it is; just a test. 4. figure ut what kind a learner you are. Some people study better when they read and see the information. I know I do. If the information has to do with the human body, try to get a chart labeled with the necessary information. That way you can "see" it and the brain will memorize it quicker. As for your second question, I don't know a website that will help you to figure out what type of learner you are, but I'll look it up. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
ok, missy120808, I found a website that helps you figure out what type of learner you are ... have fun!!!:):):)

no problem Missy. Isn't that what nurses (well, a wanna be one anyways) are for. I'm so excited I can hardly wait for my clinicals tomorrow. Yeah... today I have the day off from school. :balloons:actually, I do have a question. do you know where online that I could get "Dosage Calculations" by Gloria D. Picker, the cheapest. I checked amazon.com , but it's like 60 something for the book. And Barnes n' Noble sells the same book for $ 80. I dion't HAVE to get the book for PN (practical nursing) class, but I want to get it so I can get ahead on dosage calculations. I hope you can help me. Thank you so much. I'll let you know how clinicals go tomorrow. :nurse:

Hey there. How are you? hope you are doing well and that your classes are going great! Well, I HAD my clinicals on Tuesday and we did not do anything because the health inspector was there and my teacher did not want us to bother the nurses, so we stayed outside and went over a test that we had previously taken. It was on Nutrition and fluids and electrolytes. I got an A.. :):):) So yea, that's how clinicals went. I hope we would get to do something on Monday, which is the next time we go. take care and keep me posted :balloons:
