I Need help with Medical Math...

hello there. i'm not an lpn as of yet, but i will be in 2008 permitting if i pass the test. i'm not really good in math and i have disliked it all my life. as you know, nurses need a lot of math in order to do doseage calculations, ht. and wt., surface area, drug doseages for peds, monitoring iv, giving im, sq, or id injection etc...i hope math won't be my downfall as a nurse because i really love nursing! does anybody have any suggestions about an easier way to do mental math for drug calculations??? any help will be appreciated. thank you so much. :):):)

Hey there. How are you? hope you are doing well and that your classes are going great! Well, I HAD my clinicals on Tuesday and we did not do anything because the health inspector was there and my teacher did not want us to bother the nurses, so we stayed outside and went over a test that we had previously taken. It was on Nutrition and fluids and electrolytes. I got an A.. :):):) So yea, that's how clinicals went. I hope we would get to do something on Monday, which is the next time we go. take care and keep me posted :balloons::nurse:

Sorry that it took me so long to post, it just that I have been worried that i wasn't going to get into the Biology 100 Lecture & Lab that I wanted because I could not register until 3 p.m. yesterday and the Lab that I wanted only lets in 24 students but I got lucky and got in!!! I have been so preoccupied with that and trying to finish my classwork so that I could have thanksgiving off that I haven't checked in lately, sorry. I cannot believe that Christmas will be here soon and I still have to shop!!! Keep me posted ok!!!

I am so extremely excited to get into Biology Lecture & Lab because I really wanted to take that class and I am finally taking a class that has something to do with nursing school:nurse:!!! This is a classIwill need in order to take the second semester of the LVN program, I know I probably have awhile before I start nursing school but I want to get started ow so this is a first real step!!! As about the HW, I am not too fond of writing essays either, unless I've got a really good topic that I can elaborate on. I really don't like English, but I do think it's better than math. I have never liked math, but now it's at least to say, tolerable. I feel now, that math has a purpose now. Well you enjoy ur weekend also. I really hope that I can improve my math skills, I am jsut so scared of math!!! but I will work my behind off because all I want to do is to become a Nurse:nurse::nurse::nurse:!!! Ur welcome missy. and I thank you for all your support as well. I know that you will pass that class with flying colors! Pls let me know how it goes. I know what you mean about the math. Math used to scare my too, I was never able to do mentally. Give me pencil and paper and I'm fine, but mentally, that's a challenge. But now that I will become a LPN, I find that math has a purpose. Math is still oh so very hard for me, but I want to b a nurse soo bad that I will do anything-- even go through tedious practice of math. To imporve your math skills, as well as mine, I think the more you practice it the better you will become. But you know, what makes math hard is that you have to think, a majority of nursing is just good judgement, common sense, and memorization skills. :nurse::nurse::nurse::):):)

Hey missy. I hope that you're classes are doing fine. I just wanted to tell you know how clinicals went. It was fantastic!:):):) I did my documentation right and was able to find everything that I needed to find. My resident was not too bad, although she slept for most of her meal. I was continually trying to "wake" her up so she could have some breakfast. I managed to do thatthough, fed her her brekfast, and then did my assessment. I'm very proud of myself! We also have clinical tomorow (Wednesday). I'll let you know how it goes! Enjoy your day. :):):nurse:

Thanks so much, I am the same way if I can write it down and work out the math problem I usually get but mentally it's so hard!!! I am so happy for you-it's great that clinicals went well for you and I hope that wednesday went great for you too!!!I got a letter in the mail today from the Health Sciences Department of my CC and they wanted to know if there is space avaliable in Fall 2008 LVN program if I was interested and all I have to do is mark the box where it says yes and if there is space avaliable i will get to start this coming August 25th, 2008!!!and of course I marked yes and I will mail it tomorrow!!! I really hope that I get in!!! I cannot believe that Christmas is almost here and I still have to start my shopping!!! I hope that everyhting is going great for you and keep me posted ok:):):)
