I need confirmation that I made the right decision.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Today starts the first day for the application period for the Spring 2011 Associates program. I finished all my pre-reqs last spring to be eligible and i was very excited but after much thought, I decided not to apply and finish my pre-reqs to apply for the bachelors program.

I am currently enrolled in 3 classes this semester and will be done with all my pre-reqs next fall 2011. At which time I will graduate with my AA and completed all pre-reqs to qualify for the nursing program at a 4 year university. I feel a little sad because I worked soo hard to get to this point ( 2 years straight of pre-reqs) :crying2: but I think it's the better decision. Once I am done with the nursing program I will have a four year degree and I can take a year or two to learn my new profession and then go on to get my Masters if I choose

If I graduate with my associates i will feel rushed to go right back to school. At which time i will have to take the rest of these pre-reqs before i can apply to the bridge program from AN to BN. I am afraid I may get discouraged and not finish.

What are some of your thoughts?:uhoh3:

I think that you made a well thought out decision. I know how you feel I was going towards my ASN when the wait list at my school began to get ridiculus. At that point I figured it out that even with the extra classes required, the university's wait-list time, and time of the actual program that I would finish either degree about equal! So I was scared because of the 4 year I wanted to attend was a competitive entry but my husband gave me the push and???? I love the school and got accepted on my first app. not even wait listed!!!!! So go for it, especially if you want to eventually get your master's :)

Thanks... yes, my plan is to pursue a Masters degree. However, I don't know how I will feel when that time comes but at least I will finish with a bachelors.

congratulations that you were excepted at your school of choice. Hopefully I will not have to wait too long when the time comes for me to apply. I think I will be more competitive in the long run.

I think you are making a great decision! If you complete your ADN, and get a nursing job, you might not feel as motivated to return back to school because you are already working as a nurse. Then again, you might not even get a job because most places want a BSN and not an ADN. I totally think you are making a great decision. I recently changed my mind too. I would have been applying for the ADN program this month but I am taking another year to finish my pre reqs for the BSN program at a 4 year school. Good luck to you!

I think you're definitely making a good decision! A BS degree will always open more doors than an AA/AS degree. Not that ADN is a bad route, but if you can take the BSN route, definitely go that way!
