Hi everyone,
I'm new to this website and I'm glad I found it. I could really use some advice on how to tackle NCLEX RN for the 5th time. Here's my story: I went to school for a nursing program for RN BSN and graduated. I took the nclex rn and failed the 1st time (May 2012). For the 2nd (September 2012) and 3rd (February 2013) attempts I availed of Kaplan, Hurst and reading Saunders book for reviewing and still couldn't pass. During this time, I needed to help my family with financial situations (my family had to file for bankruptcy) so, I opted to take NCLEX Licensed Practical Nurse (July 2013), and thankfully I passed that in one go and started working. After working for awhile, I decided to go for the NCLEX RN for the 4th time (Sept. 2014), I used Kaplan again and sadly, I have not passed.
Now I'd have to say my 2015 was pretty decent- I was able to help my family out financially and I bought a house for us and the feeling is great being able to put a roof over our heads. I worked as a floor nurse LPN for 2 years and got promoted to being unit manager, so I'm definitely enjoying the boost in salary... I definitely feel the grey clouds are starting to go away, my sky is clearing up and that I believe it's time to get back on the horse and study again for NCLEX RN.
But honestly... I'm scared. Here in Michigan, we can only take the NCLEX RN 6 times max. Then what? But I'm willing to face my fears because the pain of regret is gnawing too much at my heart. I know for myself I want my RN BSN license. It's just what is that I'm lacking? Right now, I just started going to the library after work, everyday Mon-Fri for 2 hours. I've been reading the Saunders 5th edition.
You guys got any suggestions on how I should prepare for the NCLEX RN for the 5th time? And how long should I prepare? I wanna be thorough in my studying, I wanna be careful because I only got 2 more shots left. Help please. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Much appreciated.

What did your test reports show were your areas of weakness? Those are the areas to focus on.
Saunders is great for content.
You must must work through this book, answer all the questions and read through all the rationales. Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment: Practice Exercises for the NCLEX Examination, 3e: 9780323113434: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com It is highly recommended by all and you will learn a lot of content too just by working through the questions.
I can't stress enough how important it is to work through questions. NCSBN has their own question bank available for purchase at a very reasonable cost. https://www.ncsbn.org/4762.htm

There is probably a fundamental flaw in your study habits if you have failed it 5 times. I would pick up the book "make it stick" it is like 18 bucks on amazon. Read it and incorporate it into your study habits. I could elaborate on this point but the author does a much better job of doing so than I can. UWORLD would help also, as the books information would lead you to focusing more on practice questions than rereading.
Lets just say I did good in undergrad, but I did BETTER in anesthesia school, which is MUCH more difficult. And I give my thanks to this book, not my intellectual ability or time-release stroke of luck
