I may be getting married while in nursing school- HELP

Published

hello everyone,

my bf and i are considering getting married in march. he has not proposed yet, and we haven't officially set a date, but we are seriously considering getting married soon. we have lots of specific reasons, that are legit. one example is that it will save us lots of money being toghether. we also don't believe pre-marrital sex so shacking up isn't an option. i graduate( hopefully) in july, we were hoping to tie the knot in march during spring break.

we don't want a big wedding. we will probably just have 50 guest, and the wedding and reception will be in the same hall.

has anyone ever gotten married while in nursing school before ? is it really stressful to plan the whole event ?

am i just flat out crazy for considering this ? my bf is so supportive of me being in school, so i know he won't distract me much. anyway, just looking for some advice here. thanks you guys in advance.

So here's the update:

My BF proposed, I said yes ofcourse.

We are planning to get married April 4th, while I'm on spring break. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as time moves along. Wish me luck !

I just got married over the summer.....my husband and I have been together for almost 7 years. Yes, it's doable....but make sure you're doing it for the right reasons. Also make sure you two are financially stable, or it will further burden the already stressful new marriage situation. We would not have gotten married yet (would've waited til after grad) if my husband didn't have such a stable career. We also bought a home last year, and wanted to be married to kindof seal the deal with everything (among other reasons, of course! :redpinkhe). It was a great decision.

I must say, though, if you are 19 (I'm looking at your username), I would recommend waiting a while.....like, a LONG while before you commit to marriage. I have changed tremendously from age 19 to now 24. Good luck to you, I wish you the best!

I planned my wedding during my 1st semester of nursing school. To top it off, we moved into a new apartment and I got into a horrible car accident 3 weeks before the wedding. I had emergency surgery on my right ankle, had 7 screws and a plate put in, and broke my right arm. I finished the semester taking a regular exam, final exam, and a skills check-off in my wheelchair and on Norco.

We got married in Vegas and my husband rolled me down the aisle in my wheelchair! We made the best of it under the circumstances. You will find a way to make your wedding the most memorable day of your life. You just have to manage your time wisely and you'll be just fine.

Good Luck! :D

Thanks everyone for the support. Yes I'm 20 and young, but life is too short and I just can't wait to become his wife. He is the most loving, compassionate man I know. He also takes good care of me. He does have a stable job and makes a little more than I do so I think we will be okay. He's also moving into a new apartment in March so everything so far is falling into place. We already set up wedding plans... Its going to be very small and intimate. He's paying for the whole wedding ! Well, prayerfully everything will fall into place. I'll definitely keep you all updated. Right now I'm just trying to take one day at a time.

Thanks for the update, it seems like everything will fall into place. Congratulations on your engagement!

Another update !

So far everything has been falling into place. We got the date, time, place, people, my wedding dress, and etc. I have also been able to delegate certain tasks to my family members. I've been still working hard in nursing school and remaining focus. Now for the bad part: I scheduled my wedding on a CLINICAL DAY ! How could I have done this ? I was looking in the calendar for the next class and it says we have clinical that day. I have two options: 1) Skip clinical and get 2 criticals u's out of 6. ( If you get six you're kicked out the program) 2) Reschedule the wedding the day before Easter. I don't want to get married the day before Easter, because I just don't ! I think I may have to take my 2 critical u's :( Oh and so much for a honey moon night because I'll have to be up by 5 AM to go to clinical the next day :( Well you only get married once right ? I know of a few students who had to miss a clinical session and still passed the course. Well, tell me what y'all think. I know I'm already crazy for getting married while in nursing school, and to schedule it on a clinical day is down right insane.

I knew I wasn't going insane ! I'm still confused though. On one nursing school calender it says spring break starts on April 4 Saturday. On another nursing school calender it says I'm scheduled for clinical on April 4th, and spring break starts on the following Monday. I don't know ? I'm going to email the course leader ASAP.

I have two posts on one topic ! Anyway another update. I've decided to push back the wedding. That way I'll have time to focus on school, and not have to worry about my schedule for nursing school. Whew ! what a load lifted off 1

A very wise decision.

you make a good decision, just to encourage you -all shall be WELL. i got married last august, planned my wedding (over 300 guests) during my third and fourth semester with the help of my family and friends, and it was a huge success. we went for our honeymoon during my two weeks break from school and then i was back for my last semester. i graduated on december. so keep your focus, do not let anything stress you....remember you got to keep your balance both school and marriage are very important to your future....

best wishes:yeah::mad:

Update.

Its five months later since I've posted this and we've decided to get Married August 1, 2009 a week after my pinning.

Thanks for all of the advice. August still seems so far away but look how fast May go here from January.

I'm so glad I waited too.
