well i finally made my appt for the ANCC FNP exam and it is on july 9 and i am in freak out mode!!! I want to get it over with but still have alot of studying to do. Any advice from those who took the FNp exam? I am doing fitzgerald book and cd's as well as margaret kellerman's review...not doing alot of review questions but fo cusing on the material.
Johnson, I did not know that either about the peri menopause. I feel the same way. Things I had straight last week are starting to confuse me!
I ran across a PRACTICE QUESTION yesterday saying a woman comes in with BP of 158/92, she's on a thiazide what do you do next? I was thinking diet changes but one option was to start an ACE so it threw me. It was diet with checking her NA intake and calories.
This is torture. Makes me wish I'd gone with the education option or something.
It does help to know I'm not alone anyway!
david, this was not from the actual test-this was from a practice book for the exam. i apologize i did not realize you could not discuss questions from a practice exam book. i have not taken the exam yet and if i did sign something like that i would have not discussed it.
I didn't realize that. Its probably OK to discuss practice questions although you run the risk that one of the certification programs could also misinterpret it (just like I did). Good luck on your test.

christvs when do you take your exam?
I wish more than anything in the world (see how sad my life is right now, lol :) ) that I knew when I am taking my NP exam. It's been almost 5 weeks now since I mailed in my application and I am still waiting. At least now I have my ANCC ID # so every day I type it in to the prometric web site to see if I am finally allowed to schedule it. But not yet. I really feel completely ready to take it right now too. Oh well.
I will just live vicariously through you guys! :)
I called the ANCC today to find out what the status of my application is... it's "still undergoing evaluation". Honestly, what is there to do? They had the official transcripts, how long does it take? I even asked the poor phone answerer and she said "that's just how long it takes". Really, the nursing profession is doing itself a disservice. The direct customers--us--are worried and irritated, the indirect customers (patients, the folks who want to have us up and working) think it shows tremendous disorganization.
In the meantime, I am repainting my house, one room at a time. Plus I got a load of topsoil delivered, so I can work on moving dirt when I get tired of studying...

Joan Z, how long ago did you mail in your application? I agree with you; I don't know what the heck is taking so long! It's getting very hard to try to distract myself with other things too, because the exam is all that is on my mind.

Took several months when I got out of school to get everything setup..
Wait #1 School had to finalize transcripts,
Wait # 2 Application process,
Wait #3 Ok to take test,
Wait #4 Testing center to OK a date.
I was the first to test from my class and everyone in my class knew it.
The test gave me a preliminary pass / fail response but it took a few weeks to get my real response.
The waiting time frame did not mean I did not pester everyone I could call or email about the process....
jd i totally agree! they are disorganized i have a friend where they said they lost her transcript and the lady on the phone wasn't even talking about my friend they were talking about another person that had come from NY and she is from AL. Very frustrating. Fortunately i did not have that problem it was about a month after i graduated that i got my test date but then again i sent everything in except my transcript in the middle of march so all they had to do was get my transcript...good luck
I am going crazy here, I have been waiting for 5 weeks to hear back from ANCC and still nothing. I'm so frustrated. I called them 3 times now and it didn't help of course. I keep checking my ID # online, but it's still not recognized. I even had a dream last night that I couldn't take the exam until Sept 3rd.
I'm soooooo sick of going over all the review material over and over and over too. Help!
Christine,
I wish I could help but all I can offer is that I am in the same boat and it is making me nuts, depressed, also hitting the ranitidine and omeprazole on a regular basis. I am thinking that September for a start date will be optimistic for me--in Michigan the lag time between passing the boards and getting the license (necessary for practice) can be MONTHS.
I will be the first to admit that in school the instructors did say that "the ANCC says to expect 2 weeks for a reply, then another 6-8 weeks or so to test." However, they followed this right up with "but most of our grads say that they get the okay to test within a few weeks of sending in their applications." In retrospect it would have been nice to actually get the words from the grads to see how long it took. I suspect the program instructors may have been remembering through rose-colored glasses!
FWIW one of my classmates went through the AANP, thinking it would be faster (since she did not have to wait to get the page from the school that the ANCC requires). She got her application in to them about 10 days before I got mine in to ANCC. She STILL does not have a date.
So, sorry to not be able to help--and truly, if I knew of any way to speed up the process I'd broadcast it to everyone--but you're not alone!

Hi David,
Yeah, we are just sort of studing together. I wish it was over but sadly no. We'd be truly crazy to just post the real questions willy nilly:)
These are from practice tests in review books.
